Parents And Abortion Posted: 05-11-04 10:56am
One thing that gets me so mad, is when
parents "force" there kids into having an
abortion or giving there baby up for
adoption!! I think that there parents
have the right to be mad, dissapointed,
sad, whatever, but I feel that parents
should back there children in there life
choices 100%! I especially feel this way
because usually after someone is forced to
do something like that it is that much
more traumatizing. Now, I know that
nobody can force you into anything, but
they can make your life such a living hell
that you have no other choice!
This gets me so mad and I just needed to
vent and see what other ppl think..

how much pressure we may b under
ultimately the decision lays with u.

Gaby,
your parents cannot force you to have an
abortion- it is your final decision if
either one of my daughters got pregnant or
one of my sons got a girl pregnant, it
would be my hope that they would accept
their responsibility and take care of
their child. However if I pound into
their head at a young age that they will
not be aloud to have an abortion, heaven
forbid one of them falls pregnant, they
may not tell me but instead get an
abortion without my knowledge. I feel
that would devastate me more knowing that
my children could not speak with me first.
But as a mother of 3 and one on the way I
would never force abortion or any decision
pertaining to their child on them. I
would guide them into the decision that I
think is wise, but again it is ultimately
their choice.

I know someone cannot be forced to, but
they can be kicked onto the street and
stripped of all they have.... And can
only come home if they comply with there
parents wishes.. That seems enough like
forcing to me

Gaby, there are many places a young,
single teen mother can go or turn to. It
is not just to the streets. You can get a
job, receive public aide and housing, live
in a group home until the age of 18 or 19
and still receive money from the state
until the age of 21. There are doors and
loopholes around everything, if that being
your reason for an abortion, you must have
not looked too hard for help. I don’t
mean you personally, I mean you in a
general term.

I am glad to hear that your parents
wouldn't kick you out. Do you have a
messenger of some sort?

In normal circumstances I totally agree
that no parent should try to force a child
(in fact no person should try to force
another person) to have an abortion.
But there can be some weird twists in this
issue - some people are far more dependent
&/or easily led or threatened (by
parents/partners & others) into doing
what someone else wants them to do be it
abortion, adoption or keeping a child.
Note I also do not think that anyone esle
should force a person to keep a child
(either stop an abortion or an adoption!!)
- but these days there are so many legal
issues - father's rights, mother's rights
grandparents rights - & remember if a
father or grandparent forces a person to
have a child they may in fact not be the
ones left to raise the child despite what
they say - so it is a mine field in so
many ways & it is getting worse.
Then take into account different religious
views, laws in different countries &
things just keep getting more difficult.
Then there are questions of what a parent
should do if their daughter is pregnant
& too ill to make her own decision?
Or if their daughter is mentally incapable
of making such a decision? I don't know
what I would do, I guess it would depend
on my daughter's medical condition, that
if the baby, the effect of the pregnancy
on my daughter etc.
Adoption is an option that is all too
often & sadly overlooked these days by
everyone which is wrong.

Dont name call. She was kidding.
No one can "force" you anymore as I have
learned. But in cases with abuse, the
girl is not going to argue with her
parents. So technically she can be
"forced"
but, there is nothing that can be done
about it. There is ugliness everywhere.
