Hey everyone. My mom has recently been
diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Her
doctors have put her on various medicines
which she says seem to help for a few
days, but then end up "doing more harm
than good". She says although the pain
in her knees are reduced, her
hands/forearmes and feet swell quite a
bit. She says her hands hurt more now
that she's been on the medicine and feel
numb sometimes as well.
She's afraid that it is because she is
allergic to sulfa. However, the doctors
keep prescribing her drugs containing this
and when she tells them they say that it
probably won't cause any problems. Yet
it seems that she may be having an
allergic reaction to these drugs.
I have looked online and I do see many
drugs for rheumatoid arthrisis which warn
agains use if the patient is allergic to
sulfa. Does anyone know of any drugs
that are definately ok for sulfa-allergic
patients?
