Wondering If I Could Be Pregnant Posted: 09-15-03 20:14pm
I recently hurt my ankle and have been
taking two ibuprofen tablets every four
hours. This has been for about two weeks
now. My period is five days late and i'm
usually pretty regular. Could my period
just be late due to the excessive amount
of ibuprofen i'm taking?

Yes, ibuprofen can mess up your cycle.
It is a blood thinner, and it may stop
your period for a short time, or it could
make it lighter.
I had the same problem earlier this year,
and I checked with my doctor to be on the
safe side, and they said it was completely
normal.
When in doubt, call your doctor or
pharmacist.

I submitted a question about taking alot
of ibuprofen and now my periods late - I
learned that ibuprofen is a blood thinner
and it's not abnormal that it's late. I'm
6 days late and a little concerned - just
because it's never been this late before -
is it still normal? Could I skip my
period completely? How long do u think I
should wait before taking a pregnancy
test? Thank you!

If it makes you feel better, go buy a
cheaper pregnancy test (they are usually
just as accurate) if it's negative wait
one more week then call doc if you still
haven't started. I have been pregnant
four times (including now) and the latest
I took one was four days late...They all
came up positive first time. Good luck.
P.S. You might want to hold off on the
ibuprophen and take tylenol if needed
until you know for sure.

Thank u for ur advice mommy4ever but i'm
curious if it's possible for me to skip my
period all together becuase of the
ibuprofen. Because I still haven't gotten
my period. I also recently talked to the
nurse at my school - she informed me that
she never heard of menstrual cycles being
effected because of ibuprofen. Did u say
this happend to u? Is she wrong?

To be totally honest I have never heard
the ibuprophen thing. If anything, it
being a blood thinner, it may make you
bleed even more, but I am not a doctor,
did you get a test? I hope everything is
going to be okay for you, and if you are
pregnant, you will do just fine, babies
are wonderful things no matter what age
you are, my sister was 15 when she had her
first and she is a better mom than me.
you're welcome, and if you do find out
that you are pregnant, I can help you with
any other questions you might have, I am
not a doctor, but I do have lots of
experience. Good luck!
