This question is kind of off subject but important to me. My new baby has little red rashy looking bumps all over her face. Every day they seem to be going away and then I look again and they are back and look worse. Does anyone know how they are caused and how to get rid of them? Is this something I should go to the emergency room for? She doesn't have another doctor's appointment until july so should I make a sooner one?

Sounds like seborrheic dermatitis. My little cousin had it when she was just weeks old too. Go to your doctor, he can prescribe something topical for it that will clear it up. It's not too serious.

Thanks for responding. Doesn't seborrheic dermatitis have something to do with the scalp? My daughter had ring worm in her hair and her doctor told me to use selsun blue shampoo and on the bottle it says it helps cure seborrheic dermatitis. I checked her scalp and there's nothing on it at all.

Seborrheic dermatitis can be anywhere on the body. Dandruff shampoos that are also indicated for seborrheic dermatitis are somewhat effective, but hard to use on areas other than the scalp. The medicine your doctor will prescribe is a cream, not a shampoo and it will be easier to use and more effective.

Oh thanks for clearing that up. I thought for a while that since I was breastfeeding her that it may be something i'm eating causing the rash. What do you think?

That may be a possibility, but as far as I have heard, allergies are developed, not inherent, so the possibility that she is allergic to something at this young an age is small. I'd of course see a doctor, but I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Rash
Posted: 05-27-04 01:21am

When my godson was just a few weeks hold his mom started noticing the same problem with him, he kept getting a bumpy rash on his face. She
has exzema so it scared her to death. She took him to the doctor and found out it was only because of her chapstick. She would kiss all over his new little face, and the chapstick was irratating it.
Hope this helps.

These Tricky Rashes

I brought jordan to the doctor and he said she has a heat rash. He told me to just keep her cool and out of the sun when it's the hottest in the afternoon and it should go away. It does seem to be getting a bit better. Thanks everyone for your help.
