I am reaching 22 weeks pregnant and saw my obstetrician this week who told me that the last ultrasound I had at 19 weeks showed that the babys abdomen was distended and I needed another scan! What could this be and has anyone else experienced this? He did not give me any explanation and being a nurse all kinds of things are running through my mind I am worried sick.

This must be a very worrying time for you, and you have to try to stay calm and believe everything will be alright. There are a lot of different things that could be causing this, sometimes they work themselves out or can be fixed once the baby is born, and sometimes it is just the position the baby is in that looks strange, that is why they want to do it again. They will know better once they have done another ultrasound, have you had an amniocentesis? Good luck, I hope everything turns out okay.
