Strange Medical Condition Posted: 06-03-04 05:17am
I'm a 30 year indian male, a smoker (20
cig/day) and a drinker (3 pints of a mild
lager maybe thrice a week).
I was diagnosed with mild alcoholic
hepatitis in august 2001. I've had a
condition of a high wbc count which has
varied from 15,000 to 20,000 (per cmm) and
a high blood ammonia count of upto 150
mcg/dl ever since.
The elevated blood ammonia level had
doctors suspect cirrosis of the liver,
which an ultra-sound, ct scan &
nuclear scan proved negative. The blood
ammonia levels are now under control and
were caused due to a reaction to a food
substance (tofu, soya products).
I have a continuously high wbc count like
I mentioned with a differential count of
neutro=77%, eosino=1%, baso=0%, lympho=20%
and mono=2%.
Recently hospitalised with palpitations,
my blood pressure averaged at 160 by 110,
while resting and after blood pressure
medication, and my heart rate at 130. I'd
like to add that I am not under
any stress of any sort and that I donot
have a family history of hypertension or
heart disease.
A 2d echo, ecg, etc has negated a heart
disease of any sort and my blood
cholesterol, lipids, triglycerides, etc
counts are well within normal limits.
The tests for everything from hiv,
tubercolosis, kidney function, thyroid
function, etc are clear with no indication
of anything amiss.
What could be the possible cause of my
high wbc count? Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Sounds like you had a rough go. I'm not
sure what your problem could have been but
I hope everything worked out for you.
