Anxiety, But Different

I really need help, i've searched the net everywhere and can't find a single person with the same problem as I have. I've talked to friends and family, and none of them are even the least bit afraid.

I am extremely paranoid about a terrorist attack (i live in the us), there's supposed to be one this summer. I just want to run away and live somewhere else.

I can't sleep
i have nightmares every night
i can't think about anything else
every strange noise startles me
i cry all the time
i feel like I have no future
i'm afraid for my 19 month old daughter
i'm terrified of cities and airplanes (i will be going on one in 2 weeks, and i'm already worrying about it)

i finally broke down and made a psychiatrist appointment (it's today) but I feel like nothing can help me. Will medications make the fear go away? Or will it just stop the panic attacks? I don't want to be afraid anymore. I just want to make it stop!

Can anyone relate? Any ideas or suggestions? Encouragement?

You may want some meds in the short term and also get involved in cognitive behavioral therapy (cbt). The tools in cbt will teach you to think more accurately and once you do your fears will begin to diminish. My favorite starter book on cbt is "been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz if you're interested and many universities offer cbt programs for little or no charge. It's the best stress reducer around and once you learn the tools they are with you wherever you go :d

Hello

sound to me that you have what is called ptsd
post traumatic stress disorder.
You will be ok. This can be cured what you need to do is go see your gp. Tell him what is going on inside your head. He wont think anyless of you. Nothing bad is going to happen to you. I know that it is easy for me to sit here and say this to you. But I had to end up one day going to the doctor and telling him all about me and now I am on the road to searching out what is wrong with me.
So good luck and I hope you get better.

This is just another way anxiety manifests itself in people. You will be fine like sami said but get some help. Cbt works realy well for all anxieties.
