Hi guys,

brand new to the forums, from london, england, so hello all.

Right then, i've had mild lower back pain now for some years (i'm now 35). A year ago I was knocked off my motorcycle and developed fairly severe (in my opinion) sciatica. I was unable to walk properly for about 2 months and am still in fairly considerable pain and discomfort. The uk health service are offering me open surgery as the only solution, which as i'm sure you'll all understand, i'm very keen to avoid. I have been seeing osteopaths now for some months. The pain is generally stabilised (with the occasional flare-up) but is not eradicated. I have read articles about nucleoplasty and was wondering if anyone on here has had it done and if so- what was the outcome. Also if anyone knows of any positive or negative information about the process. From what I can find out- there seem to be no negatives.

Looking forward to your replies.

Unless you have mri demonstrated evidence of a disc herniation (contained), the nucleoplasty will not help you. It is for disc herniations only.

Hi,

thanks for your post. I've had an mri back in november last year which did reveal a herniation (tho I can't remember which disk it was). Have you had nucleoplasty, and if so was it successful?

I am a physician who performs nucleoplasty and was one of the first in the country to do so. The results for contained disc herniations are approx 65% resolve leg pain and 50% low back pain.
