into active labor and at 4:31 this morning
my mom gave birth to my little sister,
alexia-marie kathryn dante, who was 6lbs
11ozs and 21 3/4 inches long, with apgar
scores of 7 and 9. She is great and
soooooooooooooooo cute! My mom is doing

Im not sure exactly, but they run a few
differnt tests of their breathing, brain
activity, response etc. And they get
scores on them*

The scores reflect the newborn's general
condition. They are scored on appearance,
pulse, grimace, activity, and respiration.
The highest in each area is a 2. Ha! I
know something for once!

lowest score?

No, the higher the better. The best you
can get are 10 and 10. Babies who score
between 7 and 10 are in good to excellent
condition, those scoring between 4 and 6
are in fair condition, usually requiring
some resuscitative measures, and those who
score under 4 are in poor condition,
requiring immediate and maximal lifesaving
efforts. They do the test at 1 min.
After birth and then 5 min. After birth.
They get 0-2 points in each area (2 being
the best).
