Hi, ive been with my girlfriend for a year
an 1/2 and she has been on the depo
injection all the time that we have been
sexually active(about 3 injections) and we
have always have protected sex witha
condom for extra safety. My girl friend
has commented that she would like to have
sex unprotected and I feel that its a risk
to do this, I feel that she is surely
going to get pregnant if we do it. So im
calling to people who understand this or
have experieced it to inform me of how
much of a risk it is. Is it low risk that
if I ejaculate unprotected while she is on
the depo injection or not.
Any help or advice welcome
thanks all
mike

Any type of hormone induced birth control
i.E. The pill, the shot (depo), the patch
, the ring are 99% effective when taken as
directed. With the shot just as long as
she is taking it when she should ( every 3
months, every 6 months, or every 9
months), whatever is directed, you guys
only have a 1% failure rate. It is up to
you if you decide to have unprotected sex
or not. I would not worry. The reason
why women for the most part go on birth
control is to not become pregnant without
protected sex. I have been with my
boyfriend for 2 years and have never used
protection with him and am not pregnant to
this day. Best of luck.

We've been unprotected since I got on the
pill which was almost a year ago....
Hmmm, I think this is working too good...
I hope I am not sterile somehow. Maybe I
should get that checked out.

Yes, b/c is only 99% effective when taken
properly and blah blah, and only in
certain people. My friend got pregnant
three times on depo. She now has two
boys, one eight and one three. Both depo
babies. There is nothing wrong with you
being responsible. Very commendable
actually. But if she really wants to do
it without condoms, then maybe you two
could use foam or inserts or something.
That way most of the sperm will die on
contact. You could use something like
that instead of condoms.

Well, for comparison, mike and I have been
married for two years. I was on birth
control for about a year, and for a year I
haven't been on any type of birth control.
I just got pregnant in april for the
first time. It's different for
everybody, but even with no protection at
all, it took me a year to get pregnant.

Yeah, it is different with everyone.
Some women are on only the pill (well, use
only the pill as contraception) and do not
become pregnant. But, others do.
Actually, four of my friends in high
school got pregnant. And all of them had
been having sex for a while, but did not
get pregnant until they went on the pill.
So, it is really different for everyone,
but if you do not want a baby then you
cannot be too careful.
