I think it is great that hospitals are
trying to make your stay pleasant with its
"Dining on Call" programs. Patients no
longer pick between mystery meat or green
gelatin. They can order anything, and as
much as they want, from the leather-bound
menu found in every room. And they can
have it whenever they want it, usually
between 7a.m. to 7p.m. All they have to
do is pick up the phone.
Forty-five minutes later, room service.
Pancakes for dinner. No problem.
Brisket for breakfast, you've got it.
Ziti with meat sauce as a midafternoon
snack. Of course.
Women who have just had babies are
especially appreciative. New moms
are very hungry.
Parents of pediatric patients can call
from home to order for their hospitalized
kids. Family members can order for
elderly patients.
They have said that people do take
advantage of the system by overeating.
Thats when a dietitian will pay that
particular patient a visit and find out
what's really going on.
