Will Certain Problems Cause Colon Cancer Later In Life?
Posted: 06-10-04 17:21pm

I have a problem where I get stopped up for almost a week and sometimes longer. I know that is not healthy so I buy stool softeners and/or laxatives but I heard that being that stopped up can build bacteria in your intestines and then taking something to clear it can rip the innerlining of your intestines allowing that bacteria to enter the bloodstream and likely cause colon cancer. I just wanted to know if this was true.

Not true. From what I know, cancer it a flaw caused by faulty cell division, not a bacterial infection. Cancer is not something you catch, its programmed into your cells. You might be at risks for other diseases however.

Hello

being constipated and taking laxatives can bring other problems to your colon. Colon cancer is not one of them.
