Pregnat With Lupus
Posted: 06-11-04 17:07pm

I am 25 years old and about three years ago I was diagnosed with lupus. Last christmas eve I found out that I was pregnat. I am very excited about the baby I am now 30 weeks and I am starting to feel some of the effects of my lupus coming on. I have severe joint pain and am constantly tired I have expressed this to my doctor and I feel like noone understands what I am going through. I work 4 10's a week and I have had to call out 6 days in the last two week period. I am scared about our bills getting paid and about the $500 deductable that I have to pay to have the baby. I have only been married for 3 weeks and although I know that he is my husband and I need to share these feelings with him I can't help but feel bad, like he might be thinking "what did I get myself into". Don't think he is a bad guy because he has been nothing but reassuring to me throughout the whole pregnacy. I guess I was just wondering if anyone out there has had any of these problems and may have some insite as to how to talk to my doctor.

Hi shauna! Welcome to the group! There are some *fab* people here! Smile

couple of thoughts...As for lupus and pregnancy, well, some people feel better while pregnant and others flare. You sound like you are flaring.

I'll comment on a couple of things:

1) relax...Your post reads like you are worrying too much! Smile

2) your new hubby probably *will* have to go through an adjustment period. There are several of us here who have experienced that. If you want to discuss it further, it would be a great topic for all of us! I've known clarebear (another active user here) for years, and she and I have lupus and husbands...With very different stories, not bad, just different.

3)talk to your hubby. I think you'll find that it will help you and your hubby. No, he won't ever understand *exactly* what you deal with, but he won't have a *clue* if you don't open up! Smile

4) ask away if you have more questions/concerns. We'll help if we can!

Hugs,
ladybrannon :d

I know this is easier said than done but you need to try and relax, this is not helping you, the lupus and your baby and your husband. Are you able to take pre-natal vitamins? Have you spoken to your Dr. About this? Can you start your maternity leave a little earlier, don't you get paid for this? You might try some relaxing techniques and I know it is hard with stress, being preg., and having lupus but at least try some deep breathing exercises, it might help. I am sure that you can make the deductible into small payments. I hope this helps! I bet it is getting hot in bakersfield, which does not help, I know, I was born and raised there!

Sincerely,
sandy

Congratulations on your pregnancy I am also 25 with lupus and I have a two year old daughter I know that it is hard . First of all you have to find a good rhumetoglists one that you can trust because there are things that are safe enough for you take that can help with the pain I also think that you need to try and get on disability if you are in enable to work .You need to understand it is not about your husband its about you and your childs safety right now and you say that he is a good husband so he should understand that you need to be concern with your health because lupus and pregnancy is very sensitive and it needs to be treated in a sensitive manner if you have questions feel free to ask please
