Behavioural Problems On Anti Convulsants. Posted: 06-12-04 01:33am
Hello everyone my name is sami
since I was diagnosed with epilepsy last
year in late october I have been on the
fast release tegretol. Slow release
tegretol and epilim mixes.
And I am the nastiest.Person at times.
Then I am hyperactive.
I cry like a baby I have temper tantrums.
Then it feels like I am thrown on the
floor. My body moves and jerks in weird
ways.
I know what is happening but I cant stop
it.
Ive told the neuro he says its ok coz its
stoping my seizures.
But about once amonth I am a monster like
this for a week. When I get my medicine
upped or when my theraputic blood levels
arent correct ranges.
Does this happen to anyone.
I am affraid I am going to scare everyone
that loves me away with the way I act.
This can last up to 1 hr for one of these
episodes. And I know its not a seizure
its a side affect from the tegretol I
think but ive been told that it can be my
mix of epilim.

Is your neuro willing to try you on some
other meds? From what I read about
tegretol, it is supposed to be helpful in
controlling hypomania (as in the high end
of bipolar disorder) which has many
similarities to hyperactivity. I'm
thinking you said on another post that
this is something you may suspect in
yourself. It isn't all that uncommon in
epilepsy. (just a thought-- certainly
not a diagnosis, by any means).
Here's a thought too: you may consider
charting your moods and/or odd behaviors
daily. It would be something you could
bring with you to your next doctor visit
and would carry more weight than a few
anecdotes here and there.
Here's one method of measuring them:
