No One Gets It... (chronic Gastritis) Posted: 06-15-04 10:30am
I am 18 years old and recently I have been
diagnosed with chronic gastritis. Ive had
it for over a year, it came on suddenly,
one day I was fine the next morning I woke
up nauseated and got heartburn and was
really weak to the point that I got
veritgo every time I stood up. After a
couple weeks of being bedridden my dad
took me to the doctor. Who told me its
just the flu and would go away. It didnt.
I couldnt go back to school, I couldnt
work, I was just sick all the time. They
took me back to the doctor, he gave me
losec, that helped a bit. I was able to
work, but only a few days a week, and I
was taking gravol and antacids constantly.
The doctor switched me from medication to
medication and nothing got rid of it. I
cant do anything I used to do, I get sick
in cars, I cant eat at restaruants, I cant
go to movies, shopping, nothing. I never
had stomach problems with anything before.
It was a drastic change. Finally, just a
couple months ago I went to see a
specialist. He gave me an endoscopy and
diagnosed me with h.Pylori, then later
came back and told me he was wrong and
actually meant to diagnose me with chronic
gastritis. So, he put me on medication
domparidine, or some such thing, and
losec, its not working too well. Today I
had to take another day off of work. And
the guilt is killing me. I dont think
people understand. When I try to explain
that I cant go out because i'm sick they
say "your always sick" its like people
dont believe me. I tell them its like
having a 24/7 flu, and I guess thats
pretty hard to believe so they just dont
get it. Its so frusterating. I dont want
to be sick forever. I dont want to stay
home forever. Does anyone have similar
experiances? Does anyone know of a cure?

Hi elizabeth,
i too have the very same problem. Excuses
for not going out are running a bit thin
with my friends. My boss says he
understands but I can't help feeling
guilty.
I tried losec and everything else my gp
gave me but nothing seems to be working.
Now i'm on an elimination diet which so
far seem to be going alright.
Next week i'm in hospital for a double
scope. I'm not looking forward to it.
Any try the elimination diet( if you
haven't already)
best of luck
