500mg's 4 Times a Day?!? Posted: 06-17-04 22:29pm
Ok so I have that same old bladder
infection.. But this time I got a
different antibiotic I think. Its called
keflex.. But this brand is generic for it
but the same, its called cephalexin.
Anyhow I have to take these 4 times day (1
pill 4 times) and their 500 mg's ..
Doesnt that seem like a lot?!?! Im
worried! Im sure the doc knows thats its
safe then..Right? My mom said its not as
important when ur later in the pregnancy.
Anyhow.. Plus that, I have prevacid to
take once a day (for the heartburn/ acid)
and I have to use the monistat cream for 7
days (sick I know!) I just am afriad that
this is too much meds to be taken while
pregnant?! ?

This may not be too helpful, but, when in
doubt call the doctor. Better safe than
sorry whether theres a baby involved or
not.

Well if ur really worried about it, I say
talk to ur doc. Just tell him/her that u
feel uncomfortable about takin so many
meds at once. For my yi, I couldnt take
anything cuz my stupid doc's nurse wouldnt
make me another appt to go see her so I
had to live wit it for 2 weeks! I'd say
do without the medication but its way too
hellish! Lol! Mine went away on its own
but thats only cuz I couldnt see my doc.
I wouldnt be too worried about all the
meds. It seems he has u on the lowest
dosage for ur yi and for ur bladder
infection, he prolly boosted it up so
it'll go away fast so ur other meds will
take care of the other stuff. Im sure
everythings fine but again, if u are
really worried, call ur doc and just ask
him if its too much.
Omg! I was on that too for my staph
infection! 500 mg 4 times a day! 2000 mg
of antibiodics a day! I thought it was
too much! But it wasn't! Wow! I'm so
shocked! You are on the same thing I was
on!

Hey kari,
for bladder infections, drink some
cranberry juice, I have a history of
urinary tract problems *not preg though*
but its good for both of you eitehr way,
its saved me trips to the doc and it may
help you too.....Try that

Yea I think I will call today then. But I
cant try to make it go away on its own
anymore because I have before (thats what
we tried last month) and he said it only
got a little worse leaving it alone, and
ive hadd it for a longgggggg time and hes
worried if I dont stay on antibiotics
that it will turn into a kidney infection
which is dangerous in pregnancy.

I was on keflex when I had a staff
infection in my throat, and after all of
my surgeries. It is a really strong
antibiotic and it works really good.
Your doc is probably just trying to get
the infection out of your body before the
baby comes, that may be why he gave you so
much. The only side effect I had on it
was constipation. But I hope you don't
have it!!

strep? That is the same stuff they put
me on!Keflex, 500mg 4 times a day. Dont
you hate the way they freakin smell????
Omg I hate it! Anyways I had to take it
for 2 weeks I believe. I finished it all
and doc said all was fine with baby hayley
at all the visits I went to so, I think
your safe. If your worried call the doc
though. No perscription for stress I am
afraid, lol. Well hope I made you feel a
little better.

That stuff is prescribed for it seems like
all infections. I had to go on it too
before and it is 4 times a day. I think
I was on it at least 3 times in my life.
I mean cephalexin, not keflex, I can't
remember if cephalexin tastes bad but I
remember getting yelled at for not taking
it once so it must have been bad or
something.

Why didn't they give you a one day thing
for the yeast infection? My doc told me
not to do the yeast infection stuff until
after I finished my uti medicine or the
yeast infection comes back.
