Malignant Melanoma Posted: 09-20-03 18:42pm
My brother is currently being treated for
malignant melanoma at westmead hospital,
in sydney australia. He is undergoing
chemotherapy, and I am wondering if there
are any on-line support groups that he
could access, or individuals who are going
through the same or a similar thing, that
he could chat with....Preferably a male.
Appreciate any assistance you can provide.

I am sorry for your brother. I am more
sorry no one posted an answer for you. I
was just looking for support groups myself
as I think I have the same thing. I'll
know shortly. No one seems to care
enough about anyone else to help. Well I
am looking for a support group and if I
find one, i'll be sure to post it here.
In the meantime, I am female, but he can
email me at
dahoov2@cox.
Net
whether I have it or not, i'll be happy to
share my emotions and feelings as the last
week i've been through hell.

hello pamela, I came across your message
when I too was looking for melanoma
support groups. Unlike you, I needed
this information for a project that I am
currently doing. The nsw cancer council
have a fantastic web site at http://www.Nswcc.Org.Au and although
I couldn't find a specific melanoma
support group they do have a thing called
'cancer council connect' which is a
one-on-one support programme which puts
cancer patients in touch with others to
provide emotional and social support.
Give them a ring on 13 11 20. I am sure
they will be able to help you. I do hope
your brother is progressing well.

Try out the mpip sight-melanoma patients
information page. I hear there is a lot
of information and support there. I am a
basal cell sufferer so I only know of
support groups for non melanoma.

hello, i am in the exact situation your
brother is dealing with. i am a 24 year
old guy, in generally good health until
this current situation. i ended 2006 with
a horrible motorcycle accident that
compound fractured my left leg, broke my
left knee, tore my maniscus in my left
knee as well, and broke my left hand.
while being in my wheelchair randomly had
a stroke that lasted 4 days during which i
was confused, disoriented, and just not
feeling right. so i went to the hospital
where i was told i had blood on my brain
and also they had found a tumor about the
size of a walnut. so i under went surgury
in march 2007 to remove the tumor. after
that i did 5 sessions of stereotactic
radiation the were 45 min each. after
finishing radiation i was put on oral
chemotherapy. after a few more mri and
other scans, i was told the tumor was
coming back and i was going to need
another brain surgury. a ct scan also
showed i had six smaller tumors that were
to small to operate on so i would need to
have stereotactic radiation again but for
only one session. so in september 2007 i
had a second brain surgury to remove all
the tumor and they actually implanted a
balloon into my head that they filled with
radioactive isotope to kill the tumor as
well as the one day radation. now i am
being told i cannot do oral chemotherapy
and the next step for me will be this
thing called hi-dose interleukin which i
am currently researching because i am
scheduled to begin hopefully in about one
week. so this is my situation, i know
exactly how your brother feels, just be
strong, live strong, and stay positive
because cancer feeds on weakness. feel
free if you have any questions or just
want to share some thought
