Can I Tell Who the Father Is? Posted: 06-19-04 22:07pm
Hi,
i have just found out that I am pregnant,
and I am tore up between being happy and
devastated.
I was using the patch, and my last period
was end of april. April was the last
month I used the patch. I was sleeping
with my long term partner until may 15th,
when we separated. I met somebody else
and slept with him on may 31st. We didn't
use condom only first time we had sex, and
he didn't finish inside of me. Last week
of may, right before I slept with a new
guy, I took pregnancy test because I was
supposed to come on that week and didn't.
Test came back negative. I contacted my
dr, and she assured me that it wasn't
unusal not to come on after you stop using
contraceptive methods. I had some morning
sicknes today, and my breast have been
feeling tender for some time now, my belly
has grown. Due to all this, I decided to
take pregnancy test again. It came back
positive.
I am not sure who the father is. I have
been with a new guy for only 20 days now,
and I am wondering if test can show
pregnancy so early?
How soon do they show if you are pregnant?
Is there any way to tell when I
conceived?
Please advise

In order to figure this out you need to
let us know what the first day of your
last period was.

I was on the patch for so long that I
stopped keeping tracks of my periods. I
always new it would come in 4th week, week
off the patch. I started last patch on
april 10th, which makes 4th week first
week of may. I honestly don't know if it
was may 2nd, or 3rd or 4th, but it was in
that week.

I would say it was probably the first guy
who got you pregnant then. But it is
possible it was the 2nd guy. But I would
put my money on the first.

That's what I think too, but I am not
sure. Can pregnancy test come back
positive within 20 days? Can it detect
pregnancy so soon? That is how long has
it been since I first slept with new guy.

Yes it could come back positive within 20
days....It generally takes about 2 weeks
after conception for a test to come back
positive.

Can ob gyn pinpoint the day of conceiving?

determine who is the father?

It can be estimated, and since they were
close it might be hard, but the estimate
will be closer to one then the other. If
the estimate is before the first guy even,
then you know he is the one, or estimated
after the second guy then he is the one,
but if between somewhere, its hard to
say!! the best you can do
is tell both guys and get a paternaty test
when the baby is born.

Oh that is not the issue. I have already
talked to them. I just wanted to have my
own peace of mind instead of waiting 9
months to find out
where to I go to find out? Ob gyn?

An ultrasound should be done and that
should give an approximate gestational
age. Talk to your obgyn about the dates
you slept with both of these men and the
two of you should be able to narrow down
which one is the father (so long as there
is a big enough time space between
sleeping with the two men).

I was hoping that 2 weeks is enough of a
gap to determine which one is the father,
especially at such an early stage of
pregnancy.

I had no clue how hard is to get obgyn to
see you. They told me everything, from
"we can get you in august" to "there is
nothing we can do for you until you are 8
weeks."
i found one office willing to help me,
they suggested blood test. How accurate
is it?
