Over the last 12 years I have lost two babies late in pregnancy and according to the doctors both times were due to placenta privia. Then they told me I had a weak cervix but I actually put it down to an orgasam each time. The doctors told me that an orgasam would not cause this to happen but then why in all the text books if you are past your due date why do they recommend you to have sex as this brings on labour?
Has any one out there thought that an orgasam has sparked off a prem labour?

It's not the orgasm, it's sperm. Sperm has prostaglandin which softens the cervix. This is why sex is encouraged for overdue women.

If your not, then get pregnant again, and then don't have sex at all the whole time and see what happens. Ask different doctors. Most people have sex through out the whole pregnancy, and they don't lose their babys from it. So think about that!

I went on to have a health baby after a stitch was put in my cervix. What I really want to know is if strong orgasams can weaken the cervix?

If sperm softens the cervix then why can pregnant women (not anywhere near their due date) have sex? Wouldn't it be bad for us?

Nope, it wouldn't be bad. The only people who should refrain from sex during pregnancy are women with an incompatant cervix or placenta previa (only because the risk of delivery could harm the fetus and mother). The prostaglandin is not very strong for one thing. Most normal women early in pregnancy could have a softening of the cervix but it would firm back up. Another thing is that most doctors who recommend this to help bring on labor will tell a woman to position her lower body in a way that the sperm will pool over the cervix (such as laying lower half on a pillow to keep the sperm on the cervix. Most normal women will stand up after sex, use the restroom, try to wipe it out, etc.
