Fibrospect Ii Test
Posted: 06-23-04 15:05pm

My husband was diagnosed 4 years ago with hep c. Genotype 1b - had 56 weeks of interferon/riboviron treatment to no avail. The treatment was so horrible. His hair fell out, he had sores that wouldn't heal, and the slightest bump into something he'd bruise and bleed (still does).

Anyway, he had this blood test called fibrospect ii done. The results came back positive for fibrosis, bridging and cirrhosis. He was sent to jefferson hospital in philadelphia to become part of the hepatic unit in the event he needs a transplant. He goes back tomorrow for an mri of his liver/abdomen. He's never had a biopsy, and I think jefferson will do that as part of his evaluation for transplant.

Can anyone tell me if a biopsy is necessary, or if you have any info regarding the fibrospect test - whether its a good indicator or not?

Thanks for any feedback. I'm very worried and wonder if anyone can help with information. Janice
