Lupus Or Not?
Posted: 06-25-04 23:45pm

I've had poor circulation for a while and it got really bad so I went to the my doctor. He ran a blood test to check for lupus. It came back negative but I was curious about lupus so I did some research...And I have a lot of the symptoms that i've read about. Butterfly rash on face, poor circulation, fatigue, being cold a lot, depression, joint pain, and swollen glands. However, I don't have an extreme reaction to light, a decrease in appetite/weight loss (i'm bulimic so maybe that accounts for that), or a cronic fever.

I've also read that many people are diagnosed as not having lupus when in fact they have lupus. Should I check into this more? I feel like a hypocondriac. Could I have lupus even though whatever blood tests they ran came back negative?

Hi fragilesara...Welcome! Smile

as for feeling like a hypochodriac...Well, you know that you are sick, right? So...Stick to your guns.

First off, you said that the doctor ran a lupus test. As there is no *one* lupus test, what did he check? Lupus is diagnosed by several blood tests and several symptoms over time. What tests have they ran on you and what were the results? Did they run an ana test? Anti-dna? Anti-sm? Anti-ro? A sphyllis test (some lupus patients get a false positive)?

And remember, there are other auto-immunes besides lupus that have a lot of the same symptoms.

I hope this helps...And feel free to ask more/comment. All of us will help if we can!

Hugs,
