Blood Pressure Monitor For the Right Arm
Posted: 06-30-04 20:26pm

My doctor has told me I need a blood pressure monitor that can be used on the
right arm as well as the left arm. I found a monitor omron
hem-780
sold by a company called jpi imports
reasonably priced at $78. They have so many blood
pressure monitors
to choose from I got confused. Does anyone have experiance
with this unit I need to know if it is a good one.

Blood Pressure Monitor For the Right Arm

I have an omron 712c monitor which is very similar to your 780. The cuff can be placed on the right or left arm secured with velcro. I believe all monitors can measure pressure on either arm and I am confused as to why your doctor specified one that can measure the right as well as left. Question

I was monitoring my blood pressure using a simple model from walgreens when I dislocated my left shoulder. I had no choice but to switch to the right arm and my monitor did just fine. I then noticed that the nurse in my doc's office measured from the right arm anyway. So I don't think it matters.

My monitor self inflates and deflates so I didn't have to measure it myself. It was digital and saved the last 60 or so readings.

Wrist or Arm Blood Pressure Monitor-Suggestion?
Posted: 07-12-08 10:58am

Hello, I am going to buy a blood pressure monitor for my dad, who needs to control systematically his blood pressure. He developed high blood pressure that rapidly goes down. Could you please recommend me some proved brand that measures accurately. In addition, I have a prejudice about using a wrist monitor. I am not quite sure which one-wrist or arm measures is better.

Thank you for the wonderful forum!

Wrist or Arm Blood Pressure Monitor - Suggestion

Hello, I was reading about the decision you are making about a blood pressure monitor. I just did some reasearch last year because my gramma required something she could do herself at home but I wanted to know it is accurate.

I put together some research and links on my blogsite that show some wrist blood pressure monitors are indeed validated. They are also the easiest to use which can sometimes make the difference between an individual checking their blood pressure or not! It must be easy to use but also accurate.

One that I found to be validated for the wrist is the Omron HEM-670IT. This model beeps when you have your wrist at heart level, then it begins to take the BP which takes less than 30 seconds. It keeps a history of the past 90 readings too.

Blood pressure monitor

Hi Lara, I think arm type is the safer bet, it is easier to get an accurate reading with the arm units. However, wrist units are compact and fits almost any size person. You have to consider what is going to get your dad to use the unit often as well, which means it should be easy to use if he's not into something that is too complicated.

Any blood pressure unit that has an A/A accuracy rating from BHS or International Protocol is considered trustworthy. Amongst this, Bios Diagnostics monitors stand out for me because they are easy to use. My brother is a pharamacist and he always recommends these. Bios has a very good irregular heartbeat detection feature. I would stay away from Homedics, 2 of their units just failed tests.

I hope this helps. Let me know what you decide.
