Hi, I am 16 years old, and until a few
months ago I have had mostly regular and
problem free periods since I was 12. For
the past 3-4 months all i've had is brown
discharge with small signs of blood, and
very irregularly, even twice a month. It
is very light and lasts about 2 days. I
am not sexually active, don't take birth
control pills or have any serious health
problems. About 3 months ago I became a
vegetarian, I have no idea if this has
anything to do with it. I'm not sure if I
should be concerned but I would really
like to get my periods back to normal.
Thanks for any help.

Brownish discharge a few times a
month=spotting.
You said that these changes sort of
coincided w/ when you became a vegetarian.
According to what i've read, sometimes
dietary changes can cause your period to
be altered--even stop entirely.
Another thing to keep in mind is that
you're 16 years old, and you're still
growing. Many girls your age have highly
irregular periods.
I suggest talking w/ your physician about
it, he/she will be able to give you the
best advice.
