Took Pills And a Positive Test (please Help) Posted: 07-07-04 08:26am
Here's the scope, I started my prescribed
birth control after what I thought was my
period. I started feeling sick to my
stomache like I did when I was pregnant
with my son. I took a pregnancy test and
it came back positive. How can that be
if I took a test at the doctor's office
and it came back negative. Will anything
happen to my baby if I have been taking
birth control pills for two weeks. I
stopped now because of the test but should
I be concerned about my baby? Will the
pills cause me to have a miscarriage?

I can't really say because i've never been
in a situation like that before. Sorry I
couldn't be of any help.

This is taken off of the planned
parenthood site:
it is unlikely that taking the pill during
early pregnancy will increase the risk of
defects in the fetus. However, the
likelihood of tubal pregnancy is greater
if you become pregnant while taking the
progestin-only pill.
I've also been to several other sites that
say the same thing so if you've only taken
them for 2 weeks, i'd say you're pretty
safe.

The contraceptive pill takes 2weeks to
start working. So if you are planning on
having sex you should also be taking other
precautions such as condoms. I would go
to the doctor and have another test taken,
it could be that the test you had done at
the doctors could have been taken too
early to show any signs of pregnancy
hormones.
