What Brings On Your Depression Posted: 09-23-03 23:01pm
I'm just wondering how others handle
things. Guilt can bring on my depression
even when I should not feel guilty. I do
volunteer work and I feel they have
started to lean on me to much because i'm
a people pleaser and have always been
there. The other day I let them know
there was something I didn't want to do.
The next day I was in bed half the day
depressed

Hey...You have no reason to feel guilty
dear, and definitely no reason to stay in
bed...
Being a people pleaser is a very taxing
job. You're definitely doing your part
to help the world by volunteering, but
you're only one person, and sometimes
saying no is what makes an individual
capable of lending themselves usefully.
You have to remember, in order to help
other people, you have to take care of
yourself first- there is no shame in
saying no- instead of focusing on that,
zero in on all the times you said yes, and
take the time that saying no has given you
to do something for yourself, so you feel
mentally, physically, and emotionally
ready to pass out those yes's again
take care

My Depression Posted: 09-29-03 09:58am
I'm on meds for depression, and they
help.
I'm not a sad depressed - i'm an angry
depressed. I get into a very negative
attitude and say "f it" to just about
everything... I don't like living that
way...
I'm on prozac and trileptal (mood
stabilizer) and the occasional xanax for
anxiety. I'm very laid back at work,
take everything in stride, but when I get
home, for some reason I get angry at my
son for stupid things.
He's a 4 year old baby... I can't
continue this... I need to change the
way I think and the way I act...
My son's daycare is across the street, I
think I will take him to lunch today...
I need to have a good talk with him,
hopefully he'll see me changing... It's
not something I want to do - it's
something I need to do.
Sorry - I went off on a tangent there...
So i'm on these meds, and the 180 degree
turnaround has been amazing. I'm in my
own place, working full time and doing
everything on my own for the first time in
my life. I'm 27 and raising a toddler
(which can be very stressful, even without
depression and anxiety), and hopefully I
can get things together and to a "normal"
state.
Ok went off on another tangent there...
Don't know if it helped your situation,
but it helped me talk through mine. good luck.,

Sometimes a change in weather is all it
takes for me to feel blue but knowing that
I am not crazy helps. I think every now
and then it's o.K. To take a day and rest
up, as long as that day doesn't turn into
a week and you're not shirking other
responcibilities. Hope everyone feels
better as this day goes by!
