Hysterectomy For Atypical Polypoid Adenomyoma Posted: 07-09-04 20:21pm
Has anyone out there been diagnosed with
this disorder? (it is rare!) I have just
been diagnosed and a recommendation for a
total hysterectomy including removal of
the ovaries has been made. I am going
for a second opinion, especially as to
removal of the ovaries, but would value
the input of anyone else with experience
with this. Allso- does anyone know if
surgically-induced menopause causes hot
flashes to last longer into menopause?
(i can't have hrt or take estrogen-related
herbal supplements because of a strong
family history of breast cancer.)
thanks for your responses!

Atypical Polypoid Adenomyoma And a Hysterectomy Posted: 02-22-05 21:32pm
I saw your posting as part of my search
for information on this diagnosis as well.
My doctor is recommending the
hysterectomy even though everything is
benign. I haven't gone for the second
opinion yet but am to see a gyn
oncologist. Can you share any
information with me?
i wrote you a reply yesterday, but I have
the nagging feeling that it didn't go
through and I don't see it posted.
Please let me know if you didn't get it
and i'll be happy to try again.
Sorry!

no I didn't get your reply and I am not
sure I am going to reach you either. I
am scheduled for a 2nd opinion with a
gyn-oncologist tomorrow so am anxious to
hear from you!

i was recently diagonosed with this
disorder and received treatment. The
treatment was a dnc followed by three
months of progesterone therapy
administered via an iud. I am 34 years
old and want to have children so having a
hysterectomy was not an option. It has
been 5 months since my progesterone
treatment. At my last ultrasound there
was a noticeable increase in the thickness
of my uterine lining it went from 10 to
14cm in a matter of a couple weeks.
This may indicate that the atypical
polypoid adenomyoma is back. If I do
not become pregnant this month I will have
a saline ultra sound to reveal if I once
again have polyps. I am going to see a
specialist in accupunture/alternative
medicine tomorrow and will ask for
alternative treatment options. I
suggest strongly against getting a
hysterectomy and getting a second opinion.
