Mother In Law Has Cirrhosis of Liver Posted: 07-10-04 21:57pm
Please help, my mother in law is a heavy
vodka drinker she will be 50 at the end of
the month...She is now in the hospital for
cirrhosis of the liver...Not only is she a
heavy drinker, but she told me that a
doctor in the past told her she has
hepatitis c...Her doctor's now have not
said that she has this....But I am
worried...Could me or my son have gotten
this from her also?? I had blood tests
done to check my iron, because I am sooo
tired all of the time(i could be tired
from having a son who will be 2 in
sept)...But I got a letter that said my
liver tests were elevated...Could this be
because I have hep c and if I have it does
that mean my son does too and will we also
get cirrhosis of the liver?? Her doctor's
tell her that she has it because she
drinks way too much...But it be because of
hep c???
Please help me...I am worried...

My husband found out he had hep c after
routine physical bloodwork showed elevated
liver enzyme counts. Further blood
tests concluded he had hepatitis c.
You only get cirhosis in the end stages of
the infection, or from excessive drinking
for a long time. If you find out you
have hepatitis c, quit drinking. Alcohol
only makes it progress faster because it
kills your liver.
