I've Been Diagnosed With a Non-headache Type of Migraine...
Posted: 07-11-04 06:22am

About 2+ years ago (after seeing many, many doctors) I was diagnosed with migraine for the following symptoms: extreme vertigo, a dull achy headache (but not too bad), dizzyness, tiredness, and it would keep me in bed for sometimes weeks at a time. I could make myself get up to eat as long as I kept my head steady but as soon as I laid back down, I felt really vertiginous. It feels exactly the way I do when I get car sick.
These would come at random times. Not regularly. Sometimes not for months and then sometimes every couple of weeks. The neurologist immediately diagnosed me with some kind of weird migraine and I can not remember the name. I'm wondering if he was right or if I should seek another opinion. Has anyone heard of anything like this?? I'd love, love, love an answer!!! Thanks!!

You can have a migraine without the "headache" portion.. It's when you get the neurological symptoms but not the throbbing headache portion. I get a mild version of it sometimes (i more often get the full throbbing migraine) but in my case it can be mild dizziness and visual disturbances. How often do you get the migraines? Are you on any medicine for it? I would recommend some sort of preventative medication.

You should both look into buying (or renting?) a ces machine e.G. Dynamind.Com $200 mine reduced by migraines from 1-2 a day to only rarely & usually when I haven't used the machine. There are also sound & light machines that can be helpful. It's a large cost but a one off except for the batteries.

Wow! I have been thinking I was insane. I have recently been diagnosed with migraines even though I don't get real severe headaches. It all started with a shooting pain from my neck to my brain then I started becoming very dizzy. Almost 3 to 4 times a week. I would have a numb feeling in my face and tingling in my hands and feet. I feel clumsy, disoriented and confused. My eyes twitch.. It's miserable. I was always a very coordinated athlete and happily healthy guy. Now I am miserable with these symptoms. Anyone know of a good treatment?

Go to a search engine (google or yahoo) & type in migraine headaches, then try typing in natural alternative treatments for migraines, also try non medication treatments for migraines, also ces machines, - basically do alot of research, figure out what sounds like your situation & what seems like it's worth trying & go for it.

"migraines" can be caused by many things - allergic reactions (remember you can develop allergies at any time in your life), stress, pulled muscles, pain, pinched nerves, depression, anxiety attacks, etc. They also come in all shapes, sizes & types, visual disturbances, distress caused by any or all of sound/smell/light/movement/foods, various tense/tight feelings especially in face/neck areas, nausea & so on & on.......

Generally though relaxing helps (as do natural meds etc that help you relax - yoga, meditation, vitamin b, 5htp(tryptophan), sam-e, dhea, walks, sleep(obviously) & so on plus prescribed meds - although these never really helped me - but we are all different - still I would suggest you check out the ces machines.

While I don't know how u feel I certainly feel for you having witnessed stuff simular to this with my finace and attending emergency rooms, drs and specialists with him. I wish u the best of luck.

Thanks & I do recommend that he get a ces machine (dynamind.Com) as this helped me amazingly (less than $200 which when you consider what he probably spends on meds etc is not alot).

thanx for everybody's input. i have also been diagnosed with migraine. when this happens i cannot string a sentence together. I drop things my heart goes two to the dozen. it started with pins and needles through my right leg arm and then face. they thought i was having a stroke. since then i have been to a&e on a number of occasions. when there i have told the doctor i have no kids ( i have 2 boys) and that i smoke (i dont) if anybody knows the symptoms of petite mal that is how it seems. (tested negative to all that). have managed to break ribs in the past trying to work through it. but i have come to the conclusion i just have to stop everything until it passes. these attacks seem to be bought on mainly through stress but also hormonal. they can last 20 mins to all day. they can be light or what i would call really deep ones that can last all day and recur all week. nothing helps. i just have to live with it, my consultant says try to live as stress free as poss!!!!!
