Weight loss and tired plus weight gain Posted: 07-12-04 10:34am
I am 36, female and in the last year or so
gained 35+ lbs. My diet is a low
cholestrol, low fat, low
everything...Exercise 3-4 times a week
doing cardio...I have had the gambit of
tests done...The thyroid test normal,
kidneys have a small amount of protein and
blood, take ucrit for that...Gall bladder
is gone...Everything tests
normal...However between the weight gain,
being tired all the time...Can sleep all
night and still be ready for a nap...Toes
and left are sometime tingle and/or
numb...And generally a lack of interest in
doing anything...What might be my problem

Have you been checked for sleep disorders
- these would explain the sleep &
tiredness & can be caused by any
number of things from stress to weight
gain, sinus, hepatitis, etc.
The weight gain itself could be from an
autoimune disorder - like irritable bowel
syndrome - my daughter lost tonnes of
weight from it but another friend gained -
we're all different - also there are a
number of such disorders so try
researching them - start with ibs - also
my daughter having lost alot of weight
(about 40lbs) before finding she has ibs
then went onto the scd (specific
carbohydrate diet - for ibs) which hs no
potato, sweet potato, corn, cakes,
biscuits, rice, pasta, spaghetti, battered
foods, rules out virtually all fast food
aside from salad & plain chicken plus
she does daily exercise for 1-3 hours yet
she has now not only regained herlost
weight she needs to lose about 25lb!! -
so these sort of problems even when you're
eating really healthy foods &
exercising can create havoc with weight -
we're still trying to figure it all out.

Did the sleep clinic route...Had a very
very mild case of sleep deprovation...I do
have sinus issues and kidney issues...Have
had stones 8-10 a year since I was a
kid...But I now take ucrit for those and
they seem to be going away...Did the
hepatitis test and was negative...Thyroid
is normal...Blood counts are normal...I am
stumped...

Do try doing some on-line research into
autoimmune disorders (try google or yahoo)
& maybe start with ibs & see if
you get any leads - there are also forums
for these disorders where you can ask
questions about what caused weight gain
& other symptoms for them.
You might also try searching under
questions like uncommon causes of weight
gain or health problems which
cause weight gain & other similar
sorts of queries.
