Two years ago I lost my son and about a
month after that I started having anxiety
attacks. I was on zoloft for a while
that helped a bit but not totally. I
went on to have another child and my
anxiety attacks have lessened but I still
have them. My question is that every
month about a week before I get my period
and the whole time I am having my period
my anxiety becomes so intense and it's
torture. As soon as my period end I am
able to gain control again and not really
have any anxiety attacks. Why is this?
Do the hormones that surge durnig that
time have some effect on anxiety?

i really do think that your hormones play
a role in anxiety. At least they do for
me. I also think that diet plays a large
role as well. I have read that 1200 mg
of calcium can help, but have not tried it
myself. I am currently trying to get
pregnant and we have had trouble. I
started seeing an acupuncturist in
february and I think that has helped with
my anxiety too. I also take some herbs
that he prescribed for me. It might be
worth looking into. Some health
insurance plans cover acupuncture now.
Hope this helps

I think hormones do play a role in anxiety
and panic, because I was more
prone to panic around my period. But I
learned in my cbt group that your
distorted thoughts are the underlying
problem with panic and anxiety and if
you can learn to counter them you can get
yourself well
