Do You Have Symmastia W/your Breast Implants?
Posted: 07-13-04 10:48am

Hello - I saw the plastic surgery topic and just wanted to share what I have been dealing with for the past 4 years now.

Unfortunately, I am one of the rising many that developled symmastia after I was botched up with my breast aug. Surgery.

The condition is caused by the surgeon cutting the sternum. Resulting in either mild to severe symmastia. It looks like one breast. The sternum area is raised and you have no cleavage. Some unexperienced Dr.'s do this in the event in trying to create more cleavage in thinner patients.. Big mistake!

Definition: symmastia describes the phenomenon where the breast implants cross the breast bone to touch each other over the midline of the chest where the cleavage area would normally be seen. Attempts to "increase cleavage" by releasing the soft tissues or inner origins of the pectoralis muscles lead to symmastia by surgically disrupting the normal anatomical attachments of skin and muscle at the medial aspects of the breasts where the cleavage is normally defined.

It can be repaired. Only through a skilled surgeon that has done these repairs before.

My condition is not that severe but this experience has been a nightmare. I just feel into the wrong hands. Sadly.

I will get this correction done one day.. I hope within this year. It is about $ 4 k or some Dr.'s charge even more for the repair. So, I have been saving on and off. With life's interuptions.. I needed a new car last year so that delayed me. I have gotton depressed over this in the past but I am content now and realize I will one day get fixed....

Thanks for letting me vent and share my drama with you all...
If anyone else here has the same thing or know someone that has this,
please email me... Thank you....
