Wisdom Tooth - How Many Days Should I Be Swollen? Posted: 07-13-04 11:18am
Its been approximately 48hrs since I had
my bottom left wisdom tooth removed.
Although I can tell the extraction area is
healing some what, my jaw is still very
tender and swollen. is this normal?
I do have some meds: penicillin for
infection and vicodin for pain.

The bottom takes longer to heal,
especially if the tooth was impacted
(under the gums, and/ or sideways) you
will probably be swollen for a few days,
it will be tender for a week or so. Make
sure that you keep it clean!!!! They
should have given you a water syringe to
help keep it clean, if not, do your best
to keep it clean. If the swelling doesn't
go down, or if you have a bad taste in
your mouth - go to the dentist/oral
surgeon (who ever took them out) and they
will help you from there! Gook luck

Everyone is different,our bodies respond
differently.You are probably the most
swollen today,and it should gradually
start to get better. If your wisdom teeth
were impacted(in bone) you can expect to
be more swollen than if they were not
impacted.Keep taking your meds and stick
to a soft diet.Use your head,if it hurts
to eat something-don't.You might get a
syringe to flush out you sockets at your
post-op visit. If you flush out the sockets
too soon, you can develop dry sockets. If
your swelling is getting worse, call your
oral surgeon/dentist to let them know. You
can gently rinse your mouth to keep it
clean,no vigorous rinsing and gently
spit.Hope you are doing better soon!Pattyv
