I have had epilepsy since birth, although
I have been unmedicated for the last 9
yrs. I have had 2 seizures in my sleep in
the past 6 months. I have given birth to
a baby 2 months ago, 1 seizure was while
pregnant, and the last was just last
weekend.
These seem to have happened after I have
been through something that has caused me
to be very worried/anxious about
things.... So, I am wondering if these
could be linked.... If my anxiousness
could be triggering off something which is
causing me to have a seizure.
I used to only have petit-mal seizures,
where as these that I have had in my sleep
recently have been of the grand-mal
variety..... Does anyone have any
knowledge on this subject any
feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
i was diagnosed with petit mal when I was
7 (quick eye fluttering). When I was 19
I had my first tonic seizure (early stage
of grand mal). Since then the petit mal
has persisted and the bigger seizures have
been in and out of my life as well. (i'm
now 2. For me, they
have always been brought on by lack of
sleep, lack of food, stress and anxiety.
Any kind of brain stimulation gets things
moving in everyone's heads, and axiety and
stress also do that. Anxiety puts your
body in a "stressed" mode and for sure
contributes to seizures. I had a baby 2
years ago and the stress and sleep
deprivation from that caused some seizures
for me. Your body has been going through
immense changes over the last year, some
that may be permanent. After I had my
daughter, I developed post partum
depression (which I didn't realize until 4
months later). I was very tired all the
time, felt anxious and stressed and out of
control of my feelings. This induced a
seizure (which was how I figured out I was
depressed). That's certainly not to say
you're depressed, but it might want to be
something to look into. When you feel
the anxiety coming on, if it's possible,
take some time for yourself, lying down,
taking steady breaths, listening to soft
music etc. I know from experience that
when you feel anxious it's hard to unwind
and get calmed down. But it's important
to try, as I say...For me anxiety is
seizure provoking.
Hope this helps and hasn't been
discouraging.
