Time You Take the Pill
Posted: 07-16-04 09:05am

Hi, I just started on ortho-tri cyclen two weeks ago. My boyfriend and I are still skeptical about the efficacy and reliability of the pill without the use of a condom with it. I realize that certain medications and antibiotics affect the reliability of the pill, but my question is, how important is it that I take the pill at the same time everyday? What if I were to take the pill one day at 10am and the next at 12pm? Does this affect the efficacy of the oral contraception? I don't wake up everyday at the same time, so I was just wondering about this... I didn't know if taking the pill at the same time is more for reducing the side effects of the pill, i.E. Nausea, spotting, or for reducing the risks of becoming pregnant. Thanks.

Hi, well ive been on the pill for 4 years, and I dont use condoms and take the pill generally from between 9am-12pm. So anywhere within that three hour period, generally seems to keep things consistant. I've never been pregnant from my usage.

At first I was like you, really skeptical, but as long as you are careful then you should be fine.

Make sure you read the label on your packet but generally they say anything up to 12hours is not considered "late" but I would certainly not recommend doing that. My doctor says a 3 hours give or take is completely acceptable.
