Hi i'm new here..Searching all over for a
group like this. Hopefully someone could
help me. A little more than a year ...I
was just fine I sneezed and oooooo I just
wanted to die. I could barely move and I
had all of a sudden so much intense pain
in my back.
It has gone on for a long time. The back
pain dissapeared. I was fine for months.
All of a sudden, for a few months now, I
have this terribly excruciating pain in
one spot on my buttock and all the way
down the leg right to the toes. Even my
toes are in pain. The leg pain is every
single day. I saw two doctors. One says
dont' know the other said pinched nerve
scatica the first one that doesnt know
what it is but says no not a pinched nerve
cause I have reflexes. I am awaiting to
see a specialist out of town. The pain is
so intense I can't take it anymore. I sit
for two seconds omg much pain, go to stand
up I scream, any move I make I just wanna
die. Have never in my life felt pain like
this. Any suggestions? What do you think
it sounds like. Pinched nerve? Scatica
nerve? Disks something? Oh ya, I did
have on back xray done andit showed a
touch of arthritis but nothing to talk
bout he said. Our doctors in my town come
out of the crackerjack boxes. I only know
I cannot live like this anymore. The pain
is too intense, I am becoming a miserable
person, can't do anything at all anymore
cause of this pain. Looking back I do
remember the doctor i'd say about 6 yrs
ago, going for a little bit of a sore back
different area though, and the doc said it
was almost like I was in a car accident or
a strong impact against my back. Nothing
I can think of other than in 1982 my ex
threw something real hard at my back.
But I can't see it being that after so
many years ago.
Is there any relief for this excruciating
pain???????? Please tell me there is

I have all your symtoms in the first few
days of my slipped disk. You have your
first attack one year ago and then a
relapsed a few months later. Now, that is
bad. Every relapsed makes it worse. You
did not take care after the first attack.
Doctors dont have the time or equipment to
properly diagnose you. You should have
been in a hospital.
When I have my problem, I approach like
war. I gather whatever weapon that is
reasonable and attack the problem from
many directions. I dont depend on a
single miracle drug.
Besides going to a hospital, the best
advise to you is to visit
mybacksolution.Com . It is about how this
guy solved his very chronic and acute
problem without surgery. He did this in a
very disciplined, knowledge based, multi
approach manner. Very informative.

Just thought i'd throw in that the pain
going down your leg from your butt is
probably something pinching your psiatic
nerve ( don't know if I spelled that
right) . Anyway, i've found yoga good for
my back, also taking hot baths (though if
it's not a soft-tissue thing I don't know
if that's best or cold would be) . Though
either way, to keep the inflamation down
ice it once a day. Also, i've found
celebrix to work fairly well.

Hi thanks for your replies. Could you
tell me if anyone of you also have the
symptom of having one foot go ice cold on
you. Only the one does this. At times
the one hand also but mostly the foot
which concerns me.
I went to have a ct scan of the spine
today and will get results in 2 to 4 days.
Can't wait. Many ppl have these symptoms
execpt for the cold foot.
When I lie down, the calf and foot
especialy some toes are in terrible pain
for a short while. Some ppl have said
sounds like scatica but then again sounds
like blood clot. I dont think a blood
clot would lasts this long without
anything more severe happening? Just
guessing.

definately sounds like poor circulation to
that leg, I don't see what else it could
be. The best I can recommend is massaging
the leg, making sure you sit so it can get
blood to it, and tens units (ie Dr.Ho) are
supposed to improve circulation but I
don't know if it's true or not. Also tai
chi is said to improve circulation. Ask
your doctor though

Hi lb,
hope your ct scan was able to answer some
questions as to why you are having the
pain. I thought you might like for me to
share my experience
i am a nurse who sustained an injury
(1992) to my back resulting in a
herniation at the l3/4 and l5/s1 level --
I was not a surgical candidate until dec.
1999 when some moment caused me to have
"unbearable" pain.
Symptoms:
as of jan., 2000 I couldn't walk 2 blocks
without having to sit down, even if it was
on the sidewalk. I couldn't stand for
more than 10 minutes without lying down.
I agree with one responder that when the
bulge is pinching a nerve, you can feel
temporary relief ... 10 minutes or so, by
stretching your spinal column, e.G.,
holding onto the top of a door frame and
allowing your body to hang there being
pulled by gravity alone for a few seconds.
Anyway, after 3 epidurals with no
positive relief and as a matter of fact,
onsuing leg pain, a mri was ordered --- my
s1 nerve was being compressed and so now
my only alternative was to undergo a
diskectomy. Finally relief -- not just
yet.
Present situation:
in april of 2004, I was washing some
dishes and noticed some pain so I decided
to lay on the floor and do some stretches.
Well, what I intended on doing and what
I could do were complete opposites. I
couldn't lift my rump or legs off the
floor, let alone get up. This lead to
taking on average 5 tylenols with codeine
a week.
On june 18th started a therapy which as of
this date, 7/7/04, I have only needed to
take 2 pills total. Please feel free to
contact me since I do not want to be
accused of advertisement. I have lived
with pain since 1992 -- if what I am doing
can help you, then this is part of my
lifework as a clinician. God bless,
otilia, rn

I don't know if you can't have a "pinched
nerve" if you have reflexes, but I know
for certain that you can have reflexes
while you have a damaged nerve.
I have not had a cold foot but I am
sitting here right now with pins and
needles in my toes and a dull sensation in
part of my foot as a result of nerve
damage apparently emanating from a
compressed and damaged nerve. I bet you
would find many back pain sufferers who
have had sciatic nerve compression and/or
damage who have experienced similar
symptoms.
In other words, run from that doc.
Good luck on improving.
