Hi
ask your doctor about paxil, I dont believe it has any bad side effects, I was on it at one time and it was great for my panic attacks but I am also bipolar and needed to change meds. Hope this helps in some way hun. Huuuugs. Bren

I wouldn't recommend paxil for anxiety actually. I had chronic anxiety and took paxil. At first it was almost like being on crack (though i've never taken crack so I can't be sure of course), but anyway I got up at 5 in the morning all pumped about the glorious new day, I slept only a couple hours a night, and felt so 'up' it was pretty damn abnormal. After a while I started to level out after about a week, then I got sort of a stoned feeling, like my head was in a fog. After a month it just didn't work anymore.

After years of severe anxiety and panic attacks (and being taken to the hospital a couple times for it), i've actaully managed to overcome it for the most part. I'm not exactly sure why, maybe just an age/chemical thing, but here's some things that helped me:

1. I know it sounds kind of odd, but if you like metal, I find if i'm feeling anxious it helps to listen to some music (metal in my case) that's equally powerfull to my emotion, but stuff that makes me feel good. Bassically, redirecting my negative emotions in a possitive direction. Sort of decensitization I guess.

2. Deep breathing through the nose, you can learn some excellent techniques from yoga.

3. Meditation always helps, but i'd recommend professional instruction if you want to learn how to do it properly.

4. And this helped me the most. How you feel about life is how you percieve it, I finally learned to stop worrying (as much) and stop those racing negative thoughts by stop fighting them. Instead, stop thinking of life as something you have to struggle with and manipulate, think of it more as a stream with a set-course, but you can paddle your boat down it in a way that you choose. What's going to happen will happen, what's happened happened, it's ok. Just do the right thing to make your future a good one, and if it turns out bad you've learned something. You won't make things better worrying (though you may think so), just do what your instincts say are right and don't worry so much about the consequences.
