Please Help .... Red Pimples All Over My Chin
Posted: 07-19-04 21:32pm

Recently I have been getting these pimples all over my chin and a few on the sides of my face .... They have white ends and sometimes I can squeeze them to release the puss inside ... Other times they are hard and can not be squeezed open ... I wash my face with nuetrogena oil-free acne wash and I think it helps cuz my face temporarily looks and feels dry ... However, when I go outdoors they all turn bright red and start burning and hurting ... What are they? And how can I help them to go away?
Thanks

I have tried those nuetrogena and clearasil face washes and I think I know what you mean. That burning sensation and redness is your face's (possibly allergic) reaction to those chemical ingredients. When you first use it, it does that often. The label on the back usually says repeated use will decrease the burning and redness as your skin gets used to it. From my experience, I kept using it and it ended up completely drying my face up to the point it peels. Gross. So what I recommend is that you should apply the face wash only at night before you go to sleep where the reaction will hopefully stop in the morning. Try that.

Thanks for the reply ... But the pimples are definitely not an allergic reaction to the face wash ... Cuzzz I started using the face wash as a result of my pimples. So I had these pimples and I went to the grocery store and bought that nuetrogena oil-free acne face wash in order to help get rid of the pimples, and it seems to be helping cuz it does dry out the pimples and the area peels, but either they turn bright red again a few hours later (especially if I go outdoors) orrrr a few of the pimples get better and new ones show up.
So I wana know what could be the cause of these pimples? And more importantly what kind of things at home or from the pharmacy can I use to make them go away cuz they are really uglyyyy. One thing is that I did move reecntly to opposite sides of the world, so could the weather/humidity be part of the reason? But still, what should I use to get rid of these no namers?
Thanks

First tell us about your background such as age, sex, ethnic background and etc. That'll help narrow things down.

Anyway, I think I sorta know what you mean when it turns redder when you go outdoors. I notice that with myself too at times. However, I don't think it's really turning red but the fact that sunlight through thin skin is making the acne appear redder.

There are different causes of acne. One is commonly puberty when somthing about your hormone levels rising which makes your oil glands produce more oil and bacteria and oil together clogs up pores, then it swells and become a pimple. The other cause in my case is hereditary. I'm sure there are other causes that i'm unaware of that you can look up on.

I went to see a doctor about my skin a month ago and he put me on tetracycline pills and a topical benzyl peroxide topical agent. I don't use the benzyl peroxide much because like neutrogena face wash and etc, repeated use drys up my skin way too much and peels. Anyhow, I have noticed that I haven't been breaking out as much lately which is good. If all else fails, then I guess i'll have to try a powerful solution called accutane. I've heard of its serious side effects and it's demanding price, but the testimonials are overwhelming. Anyway, hope that helped.

I am a female in my mid 20's ... The pimples have nothing to do with my period ... What I mean is its not related to my period, cuz they not only show up a few days before my period but all the time thru out the month ... So it doesnt have anything to do with puberty ... I think its from the hotttt weather and also stress .... I used to get some under my skin in my face that would be pimples but without heads .. And I went to the doc for that and he said it was stress-related which was probably true cuz I had a lot of stress that time in my life ... I still have a little stress but not like before ... Anyways what can I put on these to get rid of them? (w/o going to a doc .. Cuz I dont think its that bad ... They are just ugly and I wana get rid of them)

First of all, good movie (dazedandconfused). Second of all, I think too many of us associate pimples only with puberty. I'm sure many of us on this forum (including myself) have long since ended puberty, yet those nasty pimples still remain. I am in my early 20s and didn't start getting acne until I moved (to a dryer climate) and started college (stress level increased i'm sure).
So, i'm sure your acne is a mixture of changing hormones (very common for women to get acne after adolescence) and the change in climate.
I don't know if you'd want to do this, but I finally just gave in and went on birth control. It works great for acne in women (especially the type that is on the jaw line, temples, and chin). It also regulates your monthly cycle. Check into other options, but ask your gynocologist about it if nothing else works.
Good luck!

I think I used to have the same thing you have, and i've tried everything. I've also been put on tetracycline pills, and that's helped a lot, as well as a topical benzyol gel.

Do you normally get pimples? You said you had to go out and buy facewash and most people that struggle with acne would always have something. Anyways, personally, I don't like neutogena. Or many other facewashes. I do, however, love burt's bees products. They're all natural and won't inflame skin in the sun. For you, i'd recommend using a gentle facial cleanser, then use their scrub twice a week. Also, i'd invest in a benzyol periode cream or gel. Duac gel (perscription only) works wonders for me, you just have to make sure to moisturize after you put it on.

I Think I Know What You Have

Do these pimples seem to be localized around your mouth? You said they are on your chin, so I guess that would be around your mouth. Are they little tiny pimples but there are tunz of them? Do they almost seem like a combonation between a rash and acne? Let me know. If so I am pretty sure I know what you have because I have had the same thing.

Perioral Dermatitis
Posted: 08-09-04 04:30am

I have had it twice? It is terrible to get rid of you need to get on antibiotics. Maybe just topical but if it bad enough you will need oral and maybe topical as well. If you have perioral dermatitis cortisone will improve the rash/acne immediatly but as soon as you quit using it it will just get as bad as it was before (maybe even worse). A doctor may perscribe cortisone and antibiotics just so that you can improve your looks immediatly. Anyway you need to see a doctor. I have never been to a dermatologist because it takes to long to get into one and any gp can diagnose it.

Hope this helps.

I noticed you asked if you will outgrow it... May I ask your age? I do know a few things about skin, and one is as you try to dry out the area of problem, you will only cause your skin to produce more oils. That is natural, because your body reacts to the dryness. I am uncertain if you have acne or a rash, but there are some good products out there that will help you. For starters, I would like to know, when you put products on this problem area, does it burn at all? If so, it is very irriated and over dry. There are misconceptions that when you are broken out, or have oily skin, that you should not use a moisturizer. That is a false statement. You should use one for combination skin. Also, have you ever tried mary kay products? They have an acne treatment gel that is wonderful. It does not dry you out or cause irritation. What is is you use to clease at this time?

I'm fourteen. If I use astrigents it will burn, but I don't use it anymore. I've been using noxema for a while. It doesn't burn it. The only part of my face that is oily really is um my nose but that's about it. It's just a rash on my chin and by my mouth. I don't think i've ever used mary kay products.

There is a product line called proactiv solution that's supposed to be really good for acne.

Yeah, but does it cost lots of money? Is it prescribed?

Yes it is expensive, no it's not perscribed. It hasn't really done anything for getting rid of acne for me. It has only kept it at an even level. But if I stopped using it or missed a day I would see it in th morning and then regular use again would bring it back to the previous level. But it never actually got rid of it. I'm still battleing acne myself. I have a post I just made a few minutes ago if you want to read it. It is under the "acne that never goes away" post.

I have that combination where it looks like a rash, but some of them come to a head. My boyfriend and I think it appeared becase I have been using all of these drying out face washes, masks, etc. and hardly using moisturizer. I have normal skin except for my forehead which I would say is a little oily, but not crazy. From far away my skin looks beautiful, but get close to a mirror forget it! The bumps have gone down a little since I started a normal regimine with my face.(Only about 3 days so far) I use j&j cocoa & shea butter baby wash and then I put on natures gate tea tree moisturizer. If you know anything that would make them dissapear forever let me know PLEASE!!! BTW, I am a 23, white female, on ortho tri cyclen lo. The "rash" has only been real bad for about 3 weeks, before that it was just a few bumps here and there. One more thing, I hardly ever get any deep pimples, once in a blue moon. They are mostly the ones that sit at the surface and finally turn into a little head. Thanks so much in advance!
