Acne That Never Goes Away
Posted: 07-21-04 05:54am

I got acne since 18 years old. In the last 5 years i've tried almost everything. Took various antibiotics, acne medicine prescribed by doctors (gp), seen different dermatologists( took roaccutane twice), took herbal medicine from my native country (srilanka), used cheap to expensive products. Things I havent tried red/blue light treatment, acupuncture, la roche poshe (mineral water healing in france), lasser (will make my skin go dark since im asian).

Could someone tell me any treatment or anything that I can try that will get rid out my acne forever. Can putting on weight help this problem as im abit under weight for my height at the moment.

Thanks

There's a difference between acne and acne scars. Acne usually come and go, unlike acne scars which take forever to disappear. Tell us which one you're talking about.

You sound like me.. I wish I could give you an answer. I have tried just about everything. I'm thinking about going on a second treatment of accutane. Gaining weight wouldn't make much of a difference. I'm not sure about the alternative treatments. I heard the light treatment doesn't do much. As for laser treatment, that won't get rid of acne, just scars. I've thought about laser when I get rid of my acne. Good luck, I know the frustration. I've been battling it for 11 years now.

Looks like you need to change your diet. I still havn't tried accutane wakko, mainly because I have heard so much bad stuff about it. About how a year or so after your accutane treatment, which actually only sent your acne into remission, most acne will come back. The permanent side effects such as damaged joints are not worth one acne free year. Especially as active as I like to be. Heavy sugar intake and bad fats like butter and whole-fat dairy products, and especially fried foods, are a major cause of acne. I suggest also to eat three portions of salmon, or some other type of fish but salmon is best, a week to give your body the neccessary essential fatty acids that your body requires but cannot create. Vitamin c and e are great supplements to your diet. I take 1000mg of vitamin c and 1000iu of vitamin e at the end of each with my last meal. Also benzyl peroxide products dry your skin out which creates dead skin cells that sit on the surface. These are just looking for a hole to fester in. Try different face washes. I have a really gentle nivea face wash that has absolutely no soap. Actual soap is damaging to your skin as well, but no worries there are plenty of synthetic soaps that aren't actual soaps. Also tea tree oil at night applied to the affected areas opens the pores. This stuff smells but it works.

Take it or leave it but it is working for me and I don't think i'm going to have any joint problems or hair loss. And once my skin is acne free it won't come back.

I don't know if I stressed it enough but a good diet is the, in my opinion, the best attack on acne. Time will only tell who the victory will be. Patience is a virtue. Practice it in all areas of your life.

Have you tried something simple like proactiv? Or the generic version. I have had acne since I was 8 years old (i am now 25) and I use klear action which is generic proactiv. It works wonders and is only $20/month. Also, tanning can help clear your complexion. Good luck.

Yes I have used proactive. I used it for a little over 3 years with fluctuating improvment slim to none. Most of the changes have been recent due to diet change. And supplements. I've had acne as long as I can remember. I know I was getting it a smidge by the time I was in second grade. I'm 20 now, just turned 20 last month. I think mine is highly genetic as my father had it bad, and both of my brothers have to battle it as well. Although, I somehow got it the worst Sad . My older brother joined the marines. With that, came a major diet change. His is a lot better off now. Barley noticeble, to me anyways. My younger brother is going to be in eighth grade next year. I know his eating habits are as bad as mine were so I pray that his doesn't develop to the severity that mine has. I try to help but you know how kids are. I was stubborn too. I had the idea that it would just go away. It didn't, now I have to fight harder.

Oh, I know how you feel. It stinks. I still am in awe that klear action helps me, because nothing else ever has. My mom has very oil skin. She is 50 and still gets pimples, but not severe or anything. My skin is so freakin oily that it is disgusting. I contribute my acne mainly to that. Unless I wash my face every hour, the oil just lays on it, but you are not suppose to wash your face excessively because it can make acne worse. It is a lose, lose, situation. If I think of anything else I will let you know! Hopefully it will go away with age for use both.

Is there any natural way you can get rid of scars without going under a laser? Cause I definintely don't want to go under a laser. Anyways my acne seems mild, but my face fluctuates from a dry complexion then oily then dry then oily. For my acne, I want to get rid of it all! I'm kind of crazy over this. Vitamin a works best for acne so eat carrots! Even though I don't, I have some in my cereal! Not much but eh.
Also, diet does not affect acne. Unless your a person that it does. Someone gained 20 pounds and still had he same acne. For my rash, I don't know if it's going away or not. Seems like some are getting smaller and bigger. Anyways got to go. My dumbazz sister won't shutup...

Klear action helped with my scars and my acne.
Vitamin e will help with scars. You can buy vitamin e oil and put it on your face. Plus there is that "mederma" that they advertise. I don't know if it works or not, but if you want to give it a shot and let the rest of us know that would be nice!Lol
that is all I can think of right now.
Also, for acne drink lots of water! Flushes out the toxins.

Yellowcard, I heard peels do wonders on scars removing up to 90% of the visible damage. I personally have not tried them, mainly because I still have acne and it would be stupid to do it until I am clear. As hot as frick noted, lots of water is a must. No matter who you are weather you have acne or not. Keeping properlyy hydrated is a must. This will sound like a doctor but drink at least 64oz of water a day. More if you do a lot of work. Not only does it help flush out the toxins. The liver now has enough to work with. So instead of stealing the nutrients from your body, it takes from the water. If the liver gets the proper amount of water. Also it is working a lot less, because it doesn't have to pull from other sources. And when it pulls from other sources you begin to get symptoms of dehydration. Now back to the other question. My skin is very oily too. Watching what I eat has had awsome result on that. It used to be 30 minutes or so after proactive my face would be oily again. Now it can be several hours before it is oily like that. That right there is one of the main reasons I believe in the diet being the problem. I know there is a lot of iffyness on the issue. Some people believe it, some don't. Thats why I said take it or leave it Smile because you don't have to.I'm going to look at this klear action stuff as you say it has had great results for you. I'm always looking to find working products!

The klear action is just generic proactiv. So, if proactiv didn't work for you then klear action probably wouldn't either.
When you say to change your diet, what exactly do you mean? Do you mean eating right, like vegetables and balanced meals? Or just cutting out junk.....I don't eat right at all, not even close! That needs to change for various reasons, but it would be nice if it would help the acne too!

He he, I just got done. Checking out the klear action and yes it is exactly the same as proactive except for a couple ingredients in the cleanser step. The diet is actually very simple. Basically what I am doing is the body-for-life program so it is a diet/workout program. There is a book called eating-for-life if you don't want to lift weights too. You can check out the website www.Bodyforlife.Com and click on the nutrition link on the left side. It briefly describes the diet, so that you can look more in depth later if you are still interested. Basically six meals a day 2-3 hours apart. 1 portion of protein and 1 portion of carbohydrates and 2 glasses of water per meal. Two meals a day you also include a portion of vegtables. Three meals a week eat salmon or some other fish to get the essential fish oils. Or you can take a teaspoon of the oil, but who wants to do that if you can eat salmon! They have a meal replacement that you can take instead of a meal. But there are cheaper ones out there. I have seen several people rcommend their meal replacement product, but I just stick to a 100% whey protein powder. Look for about 20g of protein per serving if purchasing one of these. It's a lot cheaper. But should only be used to replace meals in between real meals. So don't just drink meal replacements, you don't get all the other nutrients that you may need!
Anyways their nutrients section has a list of good protein sources, carbohyrates, veggies. Good fates, vegetarian protien if your a vegetarien, as well as some big no-no's on fats that you should avoid.

I have actually only been on the diet about a week. As far as weight loss, I really don't know because I havn't been able to step on a scale yet. I don't have one and I don't know anyone or anywhere that does so when I do get to weight myself i'll let you know, I was about 200lbs not long ago though so i'll check up on that. I do feel that weight loss is not so much the issue as fat loss. Since muscle weights more that fat. I can weight the same have less fat, and more muscle, and look more trim than someone else the same weight, with more fat and less muscle. But the face I took a shower about two and a half hours ago. I woke up late hehe. I've already been rollerblading which caused me to sweat and usually after a good sweat my face would be oily. Instead I patted my face dry. It has been 30-40 minutes since then and my face is still not oily. The emphasis on pat dry is you don't want to rub your face with a towl it just causes irritation. So if you have body acne, it is a good idea to pat yourself dry with the towl after a bath or shower or whatever made you wet Smile I forgot to mention that after my shower I cleanse my face with a 100% soap free cleansing solution by nivea for men. Called double action face wash. It feels really gentle on the skin and I really love the smell.

Oo oo, I have something to send you if you want. It has a lot of good information about the causes of acne. Pm me if you would like to recieve it.

Oh yeah, I agree on the weight thing. I don't care if I weight 500 lbs as long as I look good! It is just a number! However, I really do need to trim down. Crying

Well if your 500lbs your big an misproportioned for sure. Therefore ugly!! Hehe. Meh, there is a weight you will reach that you just kind of balance at. But yeah, it is nice to be trim! Gl on the diet/workout program. I really like the workout program because it is so effective and you never work for more than an hour if you do it right. Short, yes, but it is one hellova workout. My upperbody is still sore from four days ago. Tomorrow is the next upper body workout though so I hope it doesn't phase me much. I do suggest doing the workout program if you are going to do the diet because it really takes so little time compared to other programs. And even with a diet you aren't going to lose as much weight as if you diet and weight train. And working out won't kill fat if you don't diet right so. They work together for best results. Again best of luck to whatever you choose to do!
