Hi,
i was just curious as to, if you take a home pregnancy test, and don't hold it in the stream of urine for the indicated time exp. You hold it there for approx. 2 seconds when it says hold it there for 5. Could that affect the results of the test?

Nah. They put all those detailed instructions on there so people dont just wipe it or something stupid like that. I'd think 2 seconds is plenty long to get enough on the test for it to be able to do what it needs to do. What was your result?

My husband and I have been trying for a few months and this month I am about 3 days late on my period, and I took a home pregnancy test and it gave me a negative result, i'm just hoping for the best, and seeing if maybe it could still be positive.

You could always test again, but i'm leaning towards not pregnant. If you had any of the hgt horomone in your urine, the test would have detected it, even if you didn't hold it under the stream for a full 5 secs. I'd say 1 sec is enough. They just overdo everything to make it foolproofe because some people would just wave it under and not even get any urine on it.

Maybe
I will offer up a ray of hope and say none of my home pregnancy tests for all three children showed a positive result until 2 weeks after I had missed my period. Everyone is different and some people have a lower amount of growth hormone in their urine in the beginning, or ovulate later than normal shifting the pregnancy age. Wait a week or so then test again if you still haven't started. If you don't start and it is still negative, see a doctor immediately!

Good luck!

Check the sensitivity of your test. The box should either say how soon you can use it (first response - 3 days before period is due) or it will have something like 50iu/l or 20iu/l (international units per litre) the lower this number - the more sensitive your test is.
I'm 6w 2 and still find it hard to believe so I did my own little experiment the other day with a first response test.
I dabbed on test into my urine but not enough to properly wet the tip (this was an accident on my part Embarassed ) and decided it was a "wasted" test so I dipped it in some tap water - to help the urine along the stick, but I also did a control and dipped the other (2 in a box) in just tap water.
The one with a teeny tiny bit of wee(and water) gave a positive while the water only gave a negative (thank goodness Rolling Eyes )
give it a few days and then test again - you may find it easier to "catch" your wee in a clean container and dip the test into this instead of trying to hold it in your "stream" - especially if you are a larger lady like one-self :d
