Does This Sound Like Tmj to You? Posted: 09-25-03 21:58pm
I hope someone can help here! I have had
pain in my r jaw constantly for a long
time now. I visited the dentist who
thought he felt a bump in or around my
parotic gland. I had a ct that showed a
tooth in the upper r antrum. Ok... But,
they didn't say which tooth!. The pain
in constant and worsens when I chew.
Especially gum or something like that.
When I bite down w/nothing in my mouth
there is pain in my back teeth and into my
jaw, like there is a stick stuck in there
or something. Like biting into pressure.
There is no swelling on the outside.
There is pain when I stick my hands in
there and try to "feel" it for myself.
(i realize this doesn't help). It isn't
in the "front" of my jaw. It is strictly
the back r side. Thanks..

I have dealt with the same issues for 3
years, and to me, yes it does sound like
tmj. It doesn't sound like it is in it's
worst stages, but I know it can be
painful. Try heat packs on your right
side, it should loosten up the tightness,
and stick to soft foods. Ask your
dentist for a ct of the tmj, and blood
work to check for any types of rhuematoid,
arthritis. Hope this helps.

If a ct showed a tooth back there it is
most likely cutting into your eustation
tubes causing this massive discomfort.
If that is the case that can cause all the
syptoms you have described. But if there
is that tooth, there are too many other
possiblities to rule it as tmj yet.

Most importantly, get treatment before it
gets worse! Most dentists do not want to
deal with tmj, so have them refer you to a
specialist! Good luck!
