Help! I'm 51 and had a hysterectomy 9
years ago. I've experienced night sweats
and insomnia for a few years. But lately
(over the last month) the sweats have
become more intense and now i'm getting
hot flashes during the day, total night
sweats and hot flashes of 10-15 per day.
They leave me absolutely drenched. The
"libido bandito" has also struck.
I had my fsh level checked 9 months ago
and it was very low. I've taken 2 home
menopause tests and both indicate that my
fsh level is now elevated. I'm going to
go for another blood test shortly to see
if i've "crossed the line".
Does anyone know if the transition from
peri-menopause to menopause can happen
suddenly like that? I have been taken by
surprise, I must admit.

I was under the impression that if you had
a hysterectomy,you went through surgical
menopause and it was worse than going
through actual menopause.I don't know
personally,but my mom,grandmother and
oldest sister all had hysterectomies and
had immediate menopause symptoms.??
Hope you get the answer you need.Sorry I
could not be of any help.Patty

I had a complete abdominal hysterectomy
due to cancer, heck, I didn't know I was
going thru menopause, except for a few
flashes and I have them periodically
still, but, it is not bad, it beats the
monthly periods, but I am hot blooded
anyway.
It does sound like you are menapausal but
as patty said, couldn't you have had
menapause after your hysterectomy. Did
you have a complete hysterectomy? I
would check with your Dr.
Sincerely,
sandy

Thank you for your replies. I failed to
mention that I still have my ovaries.
That explains why I didn't go thru
menopause 9 years ago. And amen on the
periods. Don't miss them one bit and I
don't even think about them. But all the
literature I can get my hands on (so far)
talks about missing periods for 12 months
signifying menopause. Heck, I haven't
had a period in 9 years!
