Very Worried

I was on ortho tri cyclene (sp?) for a year and stopped a month ago because the clinic I was going to kept messing up my appointments and I was getting fustrated.. I was also sick all the time and depressed alot! I tried to get on the shot (and still am) but am waiting for an appointment... I also cant start until I get my period.. Anyway since I stopped taking the pill I haven't had my period... I last had one in june and have been waiting for 2 weeks now since I was due for it to come.... I'm getting very worried.. Is it normal to skip a period after getting off? I really didn't trust the pill.. I don't trust condoms either.. But I use them... I've had sex 5 times (give or take a couple) since getting off and i've used condoms every time... I even used condoms when I was on the pill.... Could I be pregant even though I used protection? I feel fine.. Better now then while on the pill.. I've had an increase sex drive.. Which is great because before I never wanted sex which defeated the meaning of even being on the pill.. And no pregnacy signs... I'm just very worried and give myself an upset stomach because of it.... Like I said I don't trust condoms.. So right now i'm worried if maybe one was bad or something... I'm a big worrier. When I was on the pill I always couldn't wait until I got my period.... I've been putting off taking a pregnacy test more out of fear that I might be pregnant.. Anyway.. Any ideas? Thanks for anything...

I'm rather sure you're not pregnant. After getting off the pill it will take time for your period to get on the track it used to be before you started taking it. So having a missed period or too many periods after getting off is common. However, I assume that when you say you want to get on the shot you are talking about depo provera. I've known a lot of people who were/are on it and I used to be. My advice is to stay on the pill. Depo is a horrible experience for the majority of women on it. I bled for 6 weeks straight. So I decided never to get another shot. And that side effect is the most commonly reported one after weight gain. I really don't trust the makers of depo any more so please make sure you really want it before you get the shot. It took me a long time to recover from it and raised hell for me and my boyfriend who had to deal with me crying all the time.

What would you suggest other then the pill? I wanted the shot because of the convenience... Going to get the pill every month is just not an option... I had the same side effects you describe but thats when I was on ortho.. I don't want to relive that.. Thanks for your reply..

Hmmm....I can understand the problem with having to pick up pills every month. Maybe you could get 3 months worth at a time? That's what I do. But then, i'm allowed to walk in and get them whenever, no appointment. If absolutely no brand of pill works and getting them is taht much of a hassle maybe the patch or an iud would work for you. I suppsoe you;d still have to pick them up every month but trust me, it would be better then depo.

i've tried the 3 month pack but they normally don't do that.. I go to a free clinic and I don't qualify for the patch.. Whats a iud? Ill ask if I qualify for that..

An iud is an intra uterine device. It's basically a little ring filled with hormones that you place in your vagina for 3 weeks then on thr fourth, you take it out, have a period, and a week later you start all over again. It's personally not the way i'd like to use contraception but for a lot of people it works well. The only problem is if it's not placed way up there it could fall out during a bm or when usuing a tampon and pull ing out, the iud could come with. Other then that you're not supposed to be able to feel it so it may be a good method.
