Uncontrollable Leg Movement/cramping During Relax Times Posted: 09-26-03 06:34am
help. I'm not getting any rest. My
boyfriend seems to be suffering from some
form of (neurological ? ) problem. His
right leg tenses and jumps during the
night. The more anxiety he may be feeling
the worse it is. He also snaps the joint
or ligament in his ankle during these
times. I love him very much but it's
keeping me awake...I try massaging, he
puts ice/heat packs on...And is now
addicted to using a heating/massage
pad...Which is loud. I feel its a
neurological/psychological problem..But
i'm not sure. If anyone has ever dealt
with anything like this, I would truly
appreciate some help. Thanks

Restless Leg Syndrome Posted: 10-13-03 06:29am
I have the same problem, and it is
terrible. I toss and turn and jerk my
legs just when I am about to fall asleep.
The doctor doesn't know of a cure, and I
haven't heard either. However, I have
started taking slowmag which I think is
helping a little. I haven't been taking
it long enough to say it works 100%.
I really would like to hear if anyone else
has this problem - there must be a reason
and a cure?

Have your boyfriend see a neurologist.
It may be annoying to you - but for him it
may be more than annoying.

i also have restless leg syndrome but this
involves both legs not just one. My legs
bother me at night when I am trying to
sleep and I feel like I have worms
crawling under the skin. I am starting
to take quinine which seems to be helping.
Calcium is also supposed to help.

your boyfriend should see his doc. That
kind of problem can be coming from a
number of sources i.E. Nerves in the
lumbar spine being pinched.
Consult the experts.

This might not be "restless legs"
syndrome, it could be benign
fasciculations which basically means
involuntary firing of the muscle groups.
He should asked to be referred to a
neurologist who should perform a emg
(electromyograph) to find out whats going
on. There isnt any cure for this, but of
course it may not be whats wrong with him.
Good luck.

Jerking When Trying to Fall Asleep Posted: 03-06-04 00:23am
I also have had the jerking of either one
or 2 legs, sometimes my whole body when
trying to fall sleep. Have heard it could
be a vitamin deficiancy or a reaction to
medications, an example is
antidepressants. Sometimes those with
sleeping disorders can have those symptoms
too. Sometimes the jerking is worse than
other times. My doctor gave me a muscle
relaxant to take before sleep and it helps
quite a bit. Good idea to see
neurologist.

Hey there,
sorry your b/f is kicking you during the
night, mine does the same but jerks his
entire body and its only when he is
dropping off to sleep and its normal. But
I think he either may have restless leg or
there is another sleep disorder, dont
remember what it is (i know big help huh)
but it causes a person to jerk
continuously in their sleep. Its not
distressful to them but to the person in
the bed next to them! Have him see a
sleep pathologist or a neurologist, hope
that helps
p.S - I have cataplexy myself so I know
how annoying sleep disorders are trust me!

Try geritol vitamins.
I have had the same issues for years.
I seem to have worse pain and twitches if
I am tired.
Try taking geritol and take a warn/hot
bath before bed.
The trick is to take geritol daily.
My father has the same problem and I think
it's genetic.
But, geritol does work.
Try it for 1 week and let me know if it
works for you !

Leg Movements Posted: 01-30-06 17:21pm
Either stretching or pinchinng a nerve
coul dbe the problem as he moves in his
sleep. His leg then moves or "thumps"
rapidly. See a neurologist asap. He
may prescribe neurotin or zanaflex to help
alleviate this.

Uncontrolled Leg Movement And Restless Legs Posted: 03-06-06 16:46pm
I have has rls for years. Some days good
and some days terrible. I am going to
ask my doctor for the new med that is out.
I also started having a funny feeling in
my legs about 3 weeks ago. Sometimes I
have twinges and my leg moves or it feels
like waves or bubbles. It mostly happens
when I am relaxing. I started on paxil
about two months ago and hear this can
cause a problem. I see my doctor next
monday and will ask her. May have to see
a neurologist. I had one for neuralgia
but don't want to go back to him. I hate
having problems. Diagnosed with breast
cancer 2 1/2 yrs. Ago and it scares me
when I don't feel well.
