Physical Stress Symptoms?
Posted: 07-24-04 06:45am

I am a healthy 25 y/old male. In the past 6 weeks I have been under a great deal of stress due to personal reasons. I have never been so stressed in my entire life. With this I have noticed physical changes occur to my body. Firstly, my throat feels tight (difficulty swallowing) and I seem to constantly have a spit ball. After feeling as though I had de-stressed, I began to receive severe back, chest and arm pains. At the moment, I still have a tight throat (constantly spitting) and now have heart-burn and a burning rash between my thighs. My question is, are these common symptoms of stress, and also is it possible to get these symptoms after feeling as though you have de-stressed?

Stress can manifest in a thousand and one ways.Any and all of the symtoms you desribed can be stress induced. Is it possible for you to see a mental health professional or to talk with a support group?Sometimes discussing your issues with somenoe who is not involved in your situation is very helpful. It is easier to talk with them than say your partner, family or friends, they have no outside influences or interests to influence them.Stress is awful and can make you sick, try to help yourself through your stressful period.Best to you!Patty

I agree, they all can be stress induced and talking to someone can be a big relief. As for the pain after "de-stressing" I dont think thats supposed to happen Confused But I guess it depends on what u consider de-stressing?
Anyway, I hope u get some kind of help coz stress can cause chaos to your body.
Good luck

Often it is when we feel that we have "destressed" that the real symptoms start to show - it's like when you are tired but really busy at work & you have to keep going & don't realize just how tired you are then you stop & the tireedness/exhaustion hits you!

Also if you were under alot of stress(especially personal) it can bring up "stuff" that has affected you in the past which you didn't deal with - &/or alot of unconscious stuff/issues can surface (but as they're unconscious you are unaware of them so) & they can come out as physical symptoms.

If you do not want to or can't talk to anyone I would suggest yoga (with meditation), relaxation tapes, books on personal development & relaxation techniques, meditation. Also if it is stress (although if there are unresolved issues this is not so likely to help) you could try things like - valerian, gingko, st johns wort, sam-e, dhea, 5htp (all natural meds) or a ces machine (from $us200 at dynamind.Com) great for stress, slepp problems & pain.

Hi leo-
i like all the advice you have gotten here already and just want to add looking into cbt to your list. It teaches you tools to help reduce stress and anxiety. Yoga is a great place to start as it is really relaxing and can be a good forem of exercise as well :d
