So I get the call from my doctor this past
monday saying that they found abnormal
cells and they look very much like
pre-cancer. I go in for a
couple biopsies this coming monday, and I
don't know exactly what to expect. I mean
when they are looking if they find
something really serious will they do
something then? What if it is really bad
when we get the results, what will happen
then? also,
how long/short a time does it take hpv to
take effect and what are symptoms? Any
help is appreciated.

Abnormal Cells Posted: 12-02-04 20:55pm
Hi, I received that same phone call from
my doctor back in july. I went in for a
biopsy in early september, then back for a
leep procedure in early november. I
started feeling normal within a week of
both procedures. I had to avoid
excercise and physical activity for a few
weeks after the leep just to make sure
that I healed properly. My doctor and I
both thought all of the bad abnormal cells
were gone, however when I went in for my
follow up exam, my doctor informed me that
he didn't get them all and I will have to
go back in february for a more invasive
procedure.
I'm a little nervous because i'm only in
my early 20s and this shouldn't normally
happen to someone until they hit their
30s. The reason my doctor didn't want to
do the more invasive procedure to begin
with is because it can weaken the cervix
and that can cause problems if I ever want
to become pregnant (i wouldn't be able to
carry to full term). Not really sure
what happens next, but I understand how
confusing it all must be for you right
now. I hope you get the answers you're
looking for.

To be honest I have been fearing that
there were still cells left. I know
it can go either way and we are both young
and can recover, but at the same time it
still sends chills up my spine thinking I
might have to have other stuff done. I will keep you in
my prayers and I wish you a speedy
recovery. I too had the leep and
recovered just fine (though I was a
nervous wreck outside the or).
Tell me, for I am curious, did you have
the leep done in office without being put
to sleep or in the hospital? I was
blessed to go to the hospital because my
gyn wouldn't have done it otherwise.
Anyway, whatever god brings I know I can
handle it. We are young and many women
are *sadly* going through this too. I am
calling today to get my 3 month done. I
will post what happens when I get the
results.
God bless and good luck.

I'm also keeping good thoughts going for
you during your 3 month checkup. When I
went in for my leep, all they did was numb
the area that they were taking off. I
was awake the entire time. I think I
would be handling things a lot better if I
was 10 years older but all I can do is
take the best care that I can of myself
for right now and hope for the best.
I've got my 3 month check up set for
sometime in february--i'll keep you
updated on how it goes. I hope all goes
well for you!

I just got that very call. I have to go
in tomorrow for a biopsy and I am very
scared. Just because that is what they
found does it lead to cancer? I am only
22 and I have no idea about any of this?
Any answers will be appreciated.
