New to Message Board - Seizure Activity Increasing Posted: 07-26-04 19:34pm
Hi everyone,
i've just registered to get more
information from people with similar
situations. I'm a 31 year old male and
at age 12 I had an avm, which require
brain surgery and left me paralyzed on the
left side. It also left me with
epilepsy, although I only ever had two
seizures (one during the surgery and one
when the doctors started to lower my meds.
I had been seizure free for 18 years on
300mg dilantin up until this past spring
when I had a grand mal seizure in march.
I immediately had a ct scan and an eeg.
The results showed nothing more than the
scar tissure that had been there since the
avm. My meds were changed and they
introduced epival, whi I had to take with
dilantin. A few weeks following the
grand mal seizure I started having focal
seizures in my left arm and in my spine.
I was told this was due to the new
medication and finding the "right mix".
I went as far as 2 or three weeks seizure
free before I would have the odd one here
and there and my blood tests showed that I
was just on the edge of the therapeutic
range for the epival. My dilantin and
epival finally were within the range, and
I was finally feeling good again, but over
the past week I have started to have the
focal seizures on an almost daily basis.
Has anyone experienced similar patterns
with this?
It has been an unusually hot summer up
here in vancouver and I wonder if heat can
have an impact on this. I'm sure
dehydration can, but I drink a ton of
water.
