My blood sugar was at a 63 the other
day...I used my bosses freestyle meter and
i've been getting weak, numb in the face,
and somewhat disoriented.

It depends on what circumstances you took
the reading. Had you eaten within the
last hour or two? Was it on an empty
stomach (no food for four or more hours)?
That affects what your glucose number can
be...Thus, why diabetics take their tests
at different times all centered around
eating or not eating as the case may be.
Have you been checked for hypoglycemia?
If not, a doctors visit would be wise...
Hope things get better!

Had Eaten Posted: 10-01-03 09:48am
I actually had gotten to work late,
because I had stayed home to eat, I had a
bowl of cookie crisp, a banana and an
orange. Then ventured to work even
though I didn't feel right. I didn't
want to make my boss upset. I work in a
small office and i'm the office manager.
I have to set a good impression.
Please help, it's happening again.

It was 63 after eating a bowl of cereal, a
banana and an orange? How long after
eating was this done?

Within an hour...We got his meter set up
as soon as I got to work. He's not sure
of the readings on the freestyle meter
(it's new). Can you give me some
insight.
Thanks,
jennifer

I would think that may have been just a
tad too early to take your glucose reading
and get an accurate answer.
I usually take mine between an hour and
two after eating...That helps you gain
insight into what food does to your
system.
If nothing else, call your doctor.

I agree with ladybrannon most diabetics do
test their sugar about an hour or two
after eating. Were you doing anything
with a high activity level between the
time you ate and tested the sugar that
could result it to lower? I think you
should make an appointmnet with you'r
doctor. Best of luck, and I hope you are
feeling better. Kelly

Low Bs Posted: 12-10-03 08:54am
A bs of 63 an hour after that meal sounds
low to me. If you can borrow a monitor,
test your sugar first thing in the
morning. That is your fasting level.
Then eat and test it at one hour, two
hours and three hours. A banana is
120cal and 30g carbs, the orange is 60cal
and 15g carbs, the cereal with milk maybe
close to 200cal and 20g carb. A fasting
reading for a person without diabetes
should be between 70 to 105. It will
rise after a meal then lower by two hours
it should be under 140. I may be off
some on the levels. Levels to high can
cause a lot of long term problems, eyes,
feet, liver, many others. Low blood
sugar can be an a serious problem now.
Symptoms such as anxiety, irritability,
fear, sweating, flushing or pallor,
numbness, chills, headaches, dizziness,
weakness and faintness are common. If it
drops too low you can go into a coma. I
do not mean to alarm you but you need to
keep a close eye on this.

I've made sure to keep up on my eating.
Sometimes I don't cuz I have so many
things to do. But I dont' want to go
into a diabetic coma...I have 3 little
ones that need me to be here for them. I
also worry about my weight...My youngest
son is going to be 2 on friday and I still
am overweight...143 lbs. I feel sick
about my body, but the little exercizing I
can fit in doesn't seem to work, but I
know I have to eat. Thank you
everyone!
