Definetly a Myth Posted: 09-26-03 14:48pm
The whole cereal in the bottle thing is a
rumor...I did it with my 1st baby and it
kept him up because he got stomach aches
from it. And as for the wic
question...It should be in your local
telephone book.
Good luck,
jennifer

You should not feed a baby that until
maybe three months (mix it lightly in a
bottle) to help sleep. The reason is,
when you feed them in the night and you
put in some cereal (not gerber jars, but
the rice mix) it fills them up and they go
to sleep full. Thats like you with a cup
of milk for dinner, you will be hungry
later. But please do not feed them that
too early. It is not good for them. A
doctor can tell you that its not good.
The get stomach aches like she said. And
for wic, you should look in your phone
book like jen said. Good luck.

If you call the social services office in
the town you live in then someone there
will tell you where to go to fill out the
paper work. Are you going to a private
doctor for the birth, with your own
insurance? If you do not have any, you
can go to a health clinic and get help
there. You will get assigned a case
worker and they can tell you how they can
help you with the birth. Having a baby
can be expensive if you do not have
insurance but there are government
programs that can help you with the
expense. In some cases you do not have to
pay anything. Wic will definately help
with some of the expense so call social
services (or whatever they call it in your
state). Take care and good luck!

Cereal Posted: 09-29-03 09:51am
You will find that with your first child
you want to do everything right... You
boil bottles, boil water, go by the book
on everything. Then baby #2 comes along
and you find yourself popping the bottles
in the microwave, using water out of the
sink and basically doing things using your
motherly instinct.
As for cereal to help the baby sleep
throught the night yes it is true it will
help, because the baby will go to sleep
with a full belly. I would not suggest
giving the baby straight cereal but if you
mix it in his/her bottle that is fine.
Most pediatricians will tell you there is
no harm in it and you will enjoy the sleep
you are able to get!!!! If for some
reason the baby gets fussy or it has a
tummy ache you know not to do it anymore.
It is at least worth a shot. Oh and don't
wake a sleeping baby up to eat in the
middle of the night. Let that baby sleep.
When he/she is hungry she will wake up to
eat. If you wake the baby up to eat it
will start to become habit for him/her and
he/she will never sleep thru the night.
Well good luck!!!

Rice In a Bottle Posted: 09-29-03 12:06pm
I don't know ladies ... Two pediatricians
told us not to ever put cereal in a
bottle. It's hard to control the flow and
there is a possibility of the baby
choking. Please check with your
pediatrician for advice on this before
proceeding ...

Momindallas, its true but if you mix only
a little bit, so its very watery (not a
word?) and put it in the bottle. But the
baby should be 3 months or older. So they
have more development in the swollowing
and sucking method. Because if the suck
and it builds up and they dont swallow the
formula, it can cause choking. So be
careful when doing it. And please wait 3
months to do it. I know because my mom
did it, and my sisters did too.
