Early Onset of Hip Problems? Posted: 07-29-04 08:26am
I recently went to the Dr. For stomach
cramps and was referred for an xray.
Needless to say, my stomach was fine, but
the radiologist noted something on the
report. He states " there are mild
degenerative changes in both hips to
include a subchondral cyst within the
right acetabulum, also there are multiple
calcifications within the inferior aspect
of the pelvis which are likely
phleboliths" i'm a 43 y/o male that has no
symptoms of hip problems. Since I am
still deployed to iraq and don't have
access to a specialist, can you tell me
what this means?I know this relates to the
early onset of arthritis. . Is this
normal for my age and can anything be done
if/before symptoms appear? At the "mild"
stage, when do things start changing for
the worse and what can I expect in the
future. Is it possible this can stay in
the present stage with no symptoms for the
rest of my life?Maybe i'm worrying for
nothing, but being in a war zone is enough
stress let alone finding out something
most people get later in life.
Thank you

I tried to search this on google but came
up with issues relating to when the
condition is severe. Still I would
suggest that you try google & yahoo to
search for more information &
articles.
Just remember that each individual is
unique & since you have no pain - if
it weren't for the cramps you had &
thereore the x-ray you wouldn't even know
about this!! In fact you might not have
found out about it for another 20 years or
so - who knows!!
I realize that you have enough stress
already without this but perspective - if
it's not hurting - relax - but that
doesn't mean you should ignore it - ther
are many natural supplements which can
assist even bad arthritis so I would
research those (shark cartilege,
glucosamine & chondriotin, calcium etc
to name a few) you could then start taking
these to strengthen your bones & in
particular your hips so as to either delay
the onset of symptoms or even prevent -
after all in a way you're lucky it has
been caught early!!
