I Have Many Stomach Symptoms, Cant Afford Endoscopy, Help!!!
Posted: 07-30-04 22:43pm

Hello all, I am new to the forum. I have been looking over some posts and see that many others have the same problems I have. They are all similar so I have not been able to pinpoint what I have yet, and the gi ordered an endoscopy, but my insurance sucks and won't cover most of it.

For background, I am a 21 year old college student and I work at discount tire co. I just started having stomach issues last year in october. It started off only getting sick every couple of months or so. I would get severe nausea but could not throw up. Burping would make me feel better, but I could not seem to burp enough. It felt like if I could have one massive burp or bowel movement it would all go away, but it wasn't possible. Then if I did have a bowel movement, it still did not go away. I would be up all night because it felt so horrible I could not sleep. It would happen on friday or saturday for 2 to 3 weeks, then go away.

I recently had this happen about 1 month and a half ago, and have not been right since. I am constantly gassy, but cannot always release it. I have this pressure in my chest, sometimes it feels like there is a rock there. When I take deep breaths, the pressure gets worse. It feels like my chest is going to blow up. I almost constantly have the feeling you get right before hiccups, and if I yell or talk too much or laugh too loud I do get the hiccups (which usually last about 2 hours or more). I used to get a warm feeling in my chest (dont think it was acid, was on nexium, but it did not help that), and it would make it hard to sleep, but that seems to have gone away after cutting gluten. However, I am still feeling nauseous after eating sometimes and indigestion, with this pain in the middle of my chest. Occasionally I have horrible awful smelling gas, other times it is hard to even pass gas.

Has anyone else had these symptoms? The gi suggested an ultrascan since I cannot afford the endoscopy, would this be useful? I also do not have bowel movements often, I have had maybe 3 or 4 in the past 2 weeks. That is about normal. Does anyone have any ideas? I cannot spend much more money on doctors. I have been tested negative for h. Pylori, ttg antibodies, had x-rays on my stomach and chest, various blood tests, and have got nothing yet. Sorry for this being so long, but I wanted to try and give alot of detail so someone might know what I am talking about. Thank you in advance for any help.

How about an upper gi...That is not very expensive. Have you had any other problems? I would go and buy something call gas-x it is over the counter and works better than any of the things you mentioned and works within minutes......... Its about 5.00 a box.

How is your stomach condition now? Any better? I had similar symptons the last few months and I had an endoscope test and I was told I had gastritis and the doctor prescribed me a preacid pill, which didnt help me at all. And just last weekend I started taking this medicine made from herbs and it totally has made me feel better.

Actually, I have been avoiding gluten, as my doctor thought I might have celiac disease, and my stomach has felt great. I stiil have minor probelms with gas if I eat alot of beans or cheese or something, but my stomach doesn't feel nauseated like it used to. So, for now I am going to stick to this gluten free diet and see if it keeps the sickness away.
